Did you know that people who drink alcohol while celebrating in the sun are less likely to wear sunscreen? Research also suggests that alcohol lowers the amount of sun exposure needed to produce burns. Whether drinking or not, be sure to slather on the sunscreen to maximize your summer fun.

According to the AMA, 95% of physicians reported delays in patients accessing necessary care due to prior authorization. Treatment delays can have serious consequences. Cardiologist Dr. Jerry Kennett shares his experience navigating prior authorization in a video series: “Dealing with prior authorization is just a disaster both for physicians, but more so for the patient. They’re put in situations where they are not sure whether they are going to get their medication, they’re not sure whether they are going to be able to have a test.”

Dr. Richard Bruno is a family and preventive medicine physician who serves as the Health Officer of the Multnomah County Health Department. He also served as interim medical director of the Corrections Health division and was the Senior Medical Director for Primary Care at a federally qualified health center called Central City Concern, which provides healthcare for the houseless in Portland. His main clinical focuses are on HIV, addiction medicine, and preventive services, while leading public health interventions and policies such as cooking classes for kids and efforts to expand access to medication for opioid use disorder.

On August 11, the Oregon Health Authority (OHA) identified the following measles exposure site:

Legacy Mount Hood Medical Center emergency room waiting room, 24800 SE Stark St., Gresham, between 9:18 a.m. and 11:24 a.m., Saturday, August 8

The OMA stands with the AMA, the American Academy of Pediatrics, and other trusted medical organizations: Vaccines are safe and effective.

Vaccines are among the most thoroughly studied, effective tools we have to protect children from serious vaccine-preventable diseases. Decisions about how and when vaccines are used should be driven by rigorous scientific evidence, patient safety, and independent medical and public health expertise. Altering a proven vaccination schedule without credible evidence risks weakening public confidence and putting children’s health at risk.

If you have questions about vaccines, talk to your child’s physician. Putting our children’s health at risk is not an option
