Did you know that Springbrook Park features 52 acres of forested area in Lake Oswego's Uplands neighborhood and has two miles of soft-surface and gravel trails upgraded to Oregon State Parks standards? The trails meander beneath a dense canopy of trees this time of year and wind between many types of flora & fauna. The City of Lake Oswego Parks & Recreation and the nonprofit Friends of Springbrook Park host year-round habitat restoration and "trail days" work parties.
Saturday June 6, 2026 The Friends hosted wonderful volunteers who wheelbarrowed and spread gravel to improve and maintain trails- thank you to all who helped!

Owl alert! We recently had a barred owl dive at an independent volunteer in Marquam Nature Park, so it's a good time to remind folks about owl safety tips. We share our parks with all sorts of wildlife, so it's important to be mindful of our animal neighbors!

To keep yourself safe, keep your ears open. Owls will often give hikers a warning before they strike, so if you hear a lot of hooting nearby, you may want to leave the area. It's a good rule of thumb to listen carefully when on the trails, so perhaps keep your headphones off while you're on your hike. Additionally, head coverings like hats or helmets can offer some protection.

That being said, typically, owls will be perfectly content to leave you alone if you give them space; owl attacks are pretty rare after all. However, they might feel threatened if you're in their territory, so respect their space!
