WREATHS ACROSS AMERICA As one of our DAR Service for Veterans activities, our chapter has participated in the Wreaths Across America program for several years as our Fall fundraiser. ! The mission of the organization - Remember, Honor, Teach - is carried each December by coordinating wreath laying ceremonies at Arlington and other cemeteries in all 50 states and abroad! Wreaths sponsored through our chapter will be placed on veteran graves in Willamette National Cemetery on December 13, 2025. The cost to sponsor one wreath is $17 and we receive $5 back for each sponsored wreath. !Our goal again this year is to sponsor 127 wreaths. We currently have sponsored 55 wreaths and are 44% of the way toward reaching this goal. The deadline to sponsor a wreath is November 28. If you can help, please use the link or QR code below. The Tualatin Chapter’s Commemorative Meeting was held on Monday, November 3. Commemorative Events Chair introduced the featured speakers: Col. S. M. Wing Commander, of the Oregon Civil Air Patrol, accompanied by cadets 1st Lt. EP and 2nd Lt. JL. (Fun fact—Col. M is the husband of our State Parliamentarian,)
Together, the Col. and the cadets delivered a captivating presentation on the Civil Air Patrol’s structure, history, and mission, highlighting what makes the organization so unique. They discussed CAP’s core competencies, youth programs, and vital work in emergency services, underscoring the far-reaching impact of their efforts.

A lively question-and-answer session followed, with members eager to learn more and share their enthusiasm.

In appreciation, the cadets each received a Civil Air Patrol challenge coin. It was truly a commemorative event to remember

On this date in history (10/11), a group of patriotic women took matters into their own hands after being denied membership in the Sons of the American Revolution.

On October 11, 1890, four remarkable women gathered in Washington, D.C. to forge a new path. Their names were Mary Smith Lockwood, Mary Desha, Ellen Hardin Walworth, and Eugenia Washington, a great-grandniece of George Washington himself.

They met at the Strathmore Arms with a singular purpose: to create a lineage society for the female descendants of the patriots who fought for our nation's independence. 🇺🇸

They called their new organization the Daughters of the American Revolution, or DAR. To lead them, they elected a distinguished First Lady, Caroline Scott Harrison, wife of President Benjamin Harrison, as their first President General.

The idea was immediately popular and spread with incredible speed. In just one year, the DAR had 1,300 members. By the turn of the century, that number had swelled to over 30,000.

The DAR quickly began its important work of historic preservation. One of their most significant early projects was the restoration of New York's Fraunces Tavern, where General Washington bid farewell to his officers.

They also focused on education, often providing citizenship manuals and Americanization classes for new immigrants, helping them understand the history and founding principles of our country. 📜

The founding of the DAR created an enduring institution dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history, and securing America's future through better education.

On Thursday, August 7, members and guests gathered at Nicoletta’s Table for the chapter’s annual summer luncheon—a perfect opportunity to reconnect, share stories, and enjoy each other’s company.

A special moment was the formal induction of a new member who took the oath of membership, thus continuing the excellent growth of our chapter!

Our regent recognized several members for their outstanding service to DAR and the community, and presented special state and national awards and certificates. She also shared news of the many awards the chapter received at the District VI meeting.

Guests enjoyed lively conversation over a choice of three entrées——before closing the afternoon with a cherished chapter tradition: gathering for the annual group photo. A beautiful end to a lovely summer!
