Worship Service cancelled this morning as churches are asked not to have any in-person gatherings at this time to be able to conserve as much water as possible.
See the post below for water distribution locations for impacted community members:
EMERGENCY WATER MAIN BREAK
Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) has confirmed that the leaking 42-inch water transmission main, which supplies water to Orion Township and the Village of Lake Orion, has now broken.
As a result, water pressure throughout the community is expected to steadily decline, with the possibility of a complete water outage occurring within the next several hours depending on overall community water usage and system conditions.
Given the rapid nature of this situation and the critical need to preserve water supply for essential use, we strongly urge businesses and places of worship to consider suspending in-person operations and large gatherings until further notice. Large-scale water use can significantly accelerate depletion of remaining system capacity.
At this time, all residents are asked to immediately restrict water use to only what is absolutely essential for:
•Drinking and hydration
•Basic sanitation
Please avoid all nonessential water use, including:
•Laundry
•Dishwashers
•Lawn watering
•Extended shower use
•Other unnecessary water consumption
Conserving water now may help preserve available pressure and extend access for critical community needs.
Orion—now is the time to look out for one another. Please check on neighbors, especially those who may need assistance, and coordinate support where possible. Residents are also encouraged to rely on nearby communities such as Clarkston and Oxford that are not currently impacted.
We are in this together and will get through this together.
GLWA water distribution trucks have been deployed to the following locations to provide free water to impacted community members, starting at 10 AM:
📍Orion Township
Wildwood Amphitheater
2700 Joslyn Court
Lake Orion, MI 48360
📍Village of Lake Orion
Atwater Park
426 Atwater Street
Lake Orion, MI 48362
📍Auburn Hills
Auburn Hills Department of Public Works
1500 Brown Road
Auburn Hills, MI 48326
Water distribution will continue while the emergency outage remains in effect.
At this time, repair work is expected to be extensive. Once the damaged pipe is replaced, the system must be disinfected, flushed, tested, and approved before water service can be restored. Residents and businesses should prepare for the possibility of a prolonged outage, with current estimates indicating restoration could take approximately 10–14 days.
Please note that conditions may continue to evolve and additional guidance may be issued as more information becomes available.
Orion Township will continue providing updates through official communication channels as information is confirmed.
Thank you for your cooperation and patience during this emergency situation.
