A big shout-out to Lake Orion Lion Jimmy Childers!
Over the past four months, Lion Lion Jimmy has collected an incredible 5,615 pairs of donated eyeglasses for the Lions Recycle for Sight program.
Jimmy personally visited our 20 eyeglass collection boxes across the Lake Orion area to gather the thousands of glasses generously donated by our amazing community. He then sorted and boxed the glasses so they can be shipped to a Lions Eyeglass Recycling Center in Michigan.
At the recycling center, volunteers clean, measure, and catalog each pair by prescription so they can be reused. Because regulations prevent redistribution in the United States, these glasses are delivered during Lions international vision missions to countries where many people cannot afford eyewear. In 1925, Helen Keller challenged Lions to become “knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness.” Today, Lions Clubs around the world continue that mission by helping people see clearly and live better lives.
This effort would not be possible without the generous and caring community we are proud to serve.
Thank you, Lake Orion!
