The best time to see a building is before an incident.

Throughout the year the Fire Prevention Division works with businesses and organizations to allow our firefighters to tour their facility.

This past week our firefighters were able to tour LymTal International. You may not have heard of them but if you’ve entered a parking garage, sat at a sports stadium or been to an airport. Chances are you’ve seen, walked on or driven over their products.

Our members were able to see their facility and learn how they take hazardous chemicals and form them into integral elements of concrete structures.

Thank you to LymTal and thank you Inspector Roths, Inspector Ostertag and Marshal Williams for coordinating these tours.

We’d like to recognize the distinguished service of Executive Board Member and Captain/Inspector David Ostertag and Assistant Chief John Pender.

Both recently celebrated their 25 years of full-time service (having been hired on the same day) with the Orion Township Fire Department.

On behalf of the Orion Township Professional Firefighters, we want to thank you both of you for your time, knowledge and leadership on our department.

Specific to our local, David is a charter member and has served on the executive board since the organization of our union. Often taking phone calls and meetings while on vacation.

And though not in the bargaining unit, Assistant Chief Pender has been instrumental in fostering a professional and respectful working relationship between labor and management, helping strengthen the department through mutual trust and open communication.

Attention Orion Residents:

Due to reduced water pressure from Great Lakes Water Authority, resulting from a power outage at the pump station, we ask that all water use be limited to essential needs only. Please also refrain from all outdoor water use until further notice.

We are working with DTE and GLWA to resolve this as soon as possible and will provide updates as soon as these restrictions have been lifted.

You’ve probably heard a lot of sirens lately. We’ve responded to many calls for service over the last 48 hours.

Including the Great Lakes Crossing shooting, water craft crash on Lake Orion, house fire with children trapped and a near drowning of another child.

We’ve had to lean on mutual aid several times for these calls. Thank you Oxford Fire Department-Michigan, Oxford Fire Fighters Union IAFF L4763, Independence Firefighters, Local 2629 and Auburn Hills Firefighters 4404.

We’re grateful for the continued support of our community. It is your encouragement, patience, and trust that help keep us going. We’re proud to serve, and we’ll continue to be here 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Battalion 1 is currently on scene of a residential structure fire in Station 2’s west district. Near Silverbell & Jamm.

Auburn Hills is requested to the scene with an Engine. Independence requested to the scene with an ALS Ambulance.

All Orion Fire units are engaged in a structure fire right now in Station 2’s area near Silverbell & Squirrel.

At time of dispatch, we had an ambulance at the hospital.

And we are beginning to receive calls for wires down in the township due to the storm.

Your Orion Township Firefighters responded to this Trench Rescue incident this morning.

Our Firefighter/Paramedics transported the patient lights and sirens to a local trauma center.

A Clarkston man is expected to recover after a trench collapse in Orion Township on Wednesday. This is the second trench collapse within 24 hours in northern Oakland County. (Link in comments)

Update:
We have 2 ambulances back from transports to the hospital. There are still no firefighters at Station 1 (Downtown) or Station 4 (by Friendship Park).

At the moment there are no available fire crews to respond to emergencies in Orion Township.

We are relying on Oxford to handle an additional 911 caOrion Township, MichigandMichigan Professional Fire Fightersbrings more staffing to the department so we can provide can provide faster to service to your front door.
