Supervision Polygraphs – you can’t be compelled to incriminate yourself.

A recent federal court decision in United States v. McDonald, (Dist. N. Mex, January 6, 2016) delivers an important reminder to people on probation or supervised release: you do not lose your Fifth Amendment rights just because you are in s*x offense treatment or required to take polygraph exams! Zoning committee approves ordinance that allows Jacksonville daycare to reopen within 2,000 feet of s*x predator

Jacksonville Land Use and Zoning committee approved an ordinance that allows a day care to reopen within 2,000 feet of a s*x predator. The current city code requires a 2,500-foot distance between the two. CA: Fresno passes ordinance evicting registered s*x offenders from group housing

The Fresno County Board Of Supervisors on Tuesday unanimously approved a new law limiting the number of s*x offenders that can live in a single-family home. The law caps the number of s*xual offenders to six per home. Property owners face fines and a six-month jail sentence for violations. About two dozen members of the public have spoken on the new law since it was first presented to the board last month — with those opposed to the ordinance pleading for at least more time to find new homes for some of the residents. “I’m cool with them targeting s*x offenders tho.”

"I mean I’m cool with them targeting s*x offenders tho." That was a comment on the Wayne County (Ohio) Sheriff's Office page in response to a post warning the public about a scam targeting the employers of persons required to register as s*x offenders. Hopefully readers of FAC's forum are familiar with and prepared for the scam call, but what's equally distasteful is the comment from Eric Tracy (whose own pages prominently displays assault weapons in his profile photo), that he's fine with vigilantes and scammers targeting registrants....

UK: Car torched outside registrant’s home

A car was set on fire just outside the home of a man on the UK s*x offender registry. A neighbor said the fire spread rapidly and that the car “literally exploded”. The neighbor added: “We were fortunate that the wind was blowing westerly, otherwise the fire could have spread to nearby homes. I don’t know exactly how it started, but I believe it was done deliberately.”...

The maintenance of a public s*x offense registry has been codified as a non-punitive civil policy since the 2003 Supreme Court case of Smith v. Doe. But since then, s*x offense registries have transformed from a centralized state repository of information to a sprawling digital archive of personal data about people required to register.
