Here’s how Team Abita Springs spent their last weekend in Louisiana…

Last day of VBS for OpGo Abita Springs wrapped up with water day, pizza, and snowballs (also known as shaved ice). They're looking forward to being back on Sunday to watch the kids sing for church!

They also visited Insta-Gator, an alligator ranch, where they learned about gators, fed them, and even held some baby gators!

The group then headed to Mississippi for a weekend in the woods. A couple close with the church graciously opened up their home to them. They enjoyed a pig roast, explored the ranch, and saw cattle, pigs, and sheep up close. Some girls even got to feed a baby lamb.

They wrapped up the night around the fire with s'mores and great company!

✨Days 3 & 4 in Abita Springs ✨

Day 3
At VBS we learned about Zacchaeus and got to soak up some sunshine outside with the kids. Then we headed into the French Quarter to explore, shop, and grab beignets at Café du Monde. We ended the night with supper alongside the pastor and his family at Oceana. It was such a sweet time getting to know them more!

Day 4
The kids learned about Jesus rising from the dead and everyone was reminded of just how great God's love for us really is. That afternoon we went to the Whitney Plantation and did a self-guided tour. This tour was told from the perspective of the people that were enslaved on this plantation. It focused on history and stories from those who lived there.

All week Maddy and Elizabeth have been teaching some songs, and the kiddos have been loving it!

So thankful God brought us here and can't wait to see what He does through the rest of this trip!

✨OpGo Update: Days 1 & 2 in Abita Springs, Louisiana!✨

From chaperone Abigail Minning:

We kicked things off by meeting our VBS kids and diving into the story of baby Moses. There were crafts, laughs, and lots of new friendships forming. Then we took a fun detour to the Mardi Gras Museum of Costumes and Culture. We got dressed up in costumes and walked the streets for a bit. After that, we did some thrifting in New Orleans and found some great pieces.

Day 2 brought the story of Ruth and Naomi. The rain slowed down enough for the older kids to get some outside recess time. We spent the rest of the day exploring the Garden District, spotting Sandra Bullock's house, grabbing Insomnia Cookies, and doing a little shopping on Magazine St.

Two days in, and it's already been a good one!

⚽ Another Operation GO team is making an impact this week in West Bend, serving at the Shepherd of the Hills Soccer Camp! Led by former Lakeside teacher Pastor Clark Schultz, the camp teaches young athletes soccer fundamentals while sharing the life-changing message of Jesus. We're thankful for the opportunity our students have to serve, build relationships, and point others to Christ through sports. 💙

Team Alaska’s final days in the last Frontier.
On Sunday, our small choir introduced hymn 544 in Faith’s church service. We sang the first 2 verses then the congregation joined us on verse 3. Pastor Ewing’s children, Aurora (graduated this past year from Luther Prep) & Elijah (a rising Junior @ Prep) joined us on Piano and violin.
We ate lunch with the congregation then headed downtown Anchorage for some last minute errands. Then we headed back to church to pack up our things.
The day ended with a delicious deep fried Halibut dinner complements of the Ewings and Zarnsdorf families.
We said goodbye to Faith Lutheran @ 4 am & headed for the airport.
This trip had been such a blessing, from serving children through the soccer camp to getting to know eachother better, to discovering the Great state of Alaska! We Thank God for the opportunity he gave us ❤️

Team Alaska- Day 5 & 6
Day 5 was our last day of soccer camp. Instead of working on drills, campers used all their newly learned skills to play games against each other. The day ended with a coaches V. Coaches game!
What a blessing it was to connect with these campers and share our love for Jesus with them!
Afterwards our team headed down to the Kenai Penninsula. Such a beautiful drive!!
We stopped 1/2 way to hike to Russian River Falls (a 4.6 round trip hike). There we were able to see salmon making their way upstream to spawn.
When we got to Soldotna, Mr. & Mrs. Leckwee were able to connect with their good friend from when Mr. Leckwee taught in Kenai. He offered to take everyone fishing on his boat.
Friday night we stayed at his house.
Satruday am (day 6) we set sail out of Homer and fished the waters of Katchimac Bay. We had a very successful trip!

Team Alaska Day 4
Our staff devotion focused on the letter “v” (serVe). We can serve others because they are a “V”aluable soul that Jesus’ blood bought and paid for.

Offense and defense were the skills we worked on with our campers. Despite the campers being tired, the leaders were able to make some meaningful connection with the kids!

After camp, we drove north to Eagle River to do a little “swimming” in Eklutna Lake. Actually, we referred to it as a Polar plunge since the glacial fed waters hover around 45 degrees F. Our kids did earn free ice cream Mr. Leckwee offered to incentivize the full body dip though! 😂

On our trip home we stopped at the Peace Lutheran church campus in Eagle River. According to Mr. and Mrs. Leckwee, it’s has the most beautiful view in all our WELS synod!

We finished the day by trying out one of Alaska’s own ice cream shops, Wild Scoops. They specialize in authentic Alaskan ice cream flavors, like wild Alaskan blueberry or spruce tips.
Did you know that Alaskans eat more ice cream per capita than anywhere else!
