Wendy K. Baumann, Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions Secretary, provided updates on such subjects as EdVest 529 and Able accounts at Tuesday's Rotary meeting. Recent changes to EdVest 529, tax exempt accounts which provide saving and funding opportunities for loved ones' college, can now be transferred from child to child. They can also be rolled off into a Roth account.

Able accounts are designed for people with disabilities. The administration of these accounts is changing from being handled in Illinois, to being administered in Wisconsin, she explained, which will be more user-friendly for families.

Wendy also discussed statewide efforts to enhance financial literacy. Emphasizing the importance of educating young people on key money issues, she said there's even a mini credit union being run by some 2nd and 3rd graders in Wisconsin!

It was a treat having Wendy, a long-time Rotarian in the Greater Milwaukee area, share her knowledge and expertise with us. Thank you, Wendy!

On Tuesday, we recognized and applauded 5 of our 2026 Rotary Scholars-Isabella, Frida, Isabellah, Allison, and Jack. Rotary Club college scholarships not just reward academic excellence-they celebrate service, leadership, integrity, and courage to step into a new chapter. Those are values that define Rotary, and they are clearly reflected in each of our scholarship recipients.

At Tuesday's Noon Rotary meeting, we reminded folks that some colleges (such as in Madison) host Rotaract Clubs, which are open to individuals ages 18 to 30. Participation paves the way to fun, fellowship, and important connections. Rotary International also offers funding for eligible individuals pursuing graduate education abroad, following college.

College costs are sky-rocketing, with recent increases announced for UW System colleges. At our Noon Rotary meeting next Tues. June 9th, we'll hear about new options for saving for college and ways to help fund a loved one's post-secondary education. Our speaker Wendy K. Baumann with Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions will share the latest resources with us. All are welcome to attend.

We're excited to be welcoming five more 2026 Rotary scholarship recipients Tuesday as well---Allison, Frida, Isabella, Isabellah, and Jack.

Our young people are our future. We look forward to watching how our 2026 Rotary scholars help rock the communities (in a good way, of course!) in the future...

Emilia (Emi) and Clovis, two 2025 Rotary scholarship recipients, joined us yesterday at our Noon Rotary meeting. It was great to hear a bit about their 1st year of college, what they learned about themselves, and a few words of wisdom for this year's 2026 scholars.

Thrilled to congratulate and applaud 2026 Rotary Club scholarship recipients at yesterday's Rotary luncheon: Violet, Greta, Asha, Gabi, and Mollie. Our Lake Mills Rotary Club is grateful for the opportunity to award 10 scholarships for the upcoming college year, thanks to the support and generosity of many individuals and businesses in our community.

We're looking forward to having five more scholars join us for our June 9th Noon Rotary meeting.

P.S. The cake pictured below, created by Maria at Lake Mills Market, was fun and quite tasty, too!

Our Rotary meeting this Noon was filled with youthful inspiration and enthusiasm. Student Rotarians from Lake Mills High School Kim and Natalie recited the Rotary 4-Way test, and Elizabeth from Lakeside Lutheran gave her speech.

Six students provided highlights about the recent Rotary leadership ("RYLA") camp they attended in the Wisconsin Dells. This year, Lakeside Lutheran students Maya Damm, Colin Schaffer, and Levi Borgwardt were selected to participate in the youth leadership camp, along with Eliana Kirchberg, Sydney Grundahl, and Whitney Wiedenfeld from Lake Mills High School.

We are so blessed with outstanding young people in our Lake Mills community!
