FREE POOL ALARMS: Thanks to a donation from the Seminole County Sheriff's Office Community Foundation, pool/door alarms are back in stock at THREE Library Branches:
- Central Branch, 215 N Oxford Rd, Casselberry
- East Branch, 310 N Division St, Oviedo
- Northwest Branch, 580 Green Way Blvd, Lake Mary
The Seminole County Fire Department and The Gunner Martin Foundation are partnering to distribute free pool/door alarms to residents who have a pool or live near a body of water.
WHAT ARE POOL ALARMS?:
Pool/door alarms may be installed on doors leading to the pool area of a home, alerting parents and caregivers when outside doors are opened and preventing children from letting themselves out to a pool area unattended.
Pool alarms are one of several barriers of protection to prevent pediatric drowning. Adult supervision, pool fences, and swim lessons should also be utilized.
WHERE TO PICK UP:
A limited supply of pool alarms are available for free at the Central, East, and Northwest Branches (addresses above)
- For residents who have a pool and/or live near a body of water (lake, pond, stormwater area, etc.)
- One per household, while supplies last
WHY THE FREE DISTRIBUTION?:
Two-year-old Gunner Martin drowned in a family pool on April 6, 2016, and his father Chris Martin was inspired to become a firefighter at the Seminole County Fire Department because of this tragic incident. He and his wife Christina established the Gunner Martin Foundation in his honor to provide awareness and education on water safety, as well as free resources to the community.
