Used Books Wanted — Help Build a Child’s Future Through Literacy

The New Jersey District Kiwanis International is collecting used books to support children’s literacy across our communities.

Books open doors. They help children develop language skills, spark imagination, build confidence, and create opportunities for lifelong learning. For children who cannot afford books of their own, access to reading materials can be life-changing—improving academic success and nurturing a love of learning that lasts a lifetime.

All donated books will be repurposed and distributed to children in need.
We accept all types of books:
• Children’s books
• Young adult books
• Adult books (adult books can be exchanged to obtain children’s books)

By donating books, you are not just clearing shelf space—you are investing in literacy, education, and brighter futures for children.

Kiwanis Club of Jefferson Township Officially Organized with 30 Charter Members, Doubling the Impact

Congratulations are in order for the newly formed Kiwanis Club of Jefferson Township, which officially organized this week with an impressive 30 charter members, doubling the minimum required to charter a new club.

The milestone was achieved in just three days, a powerful example of “Double Down with Frank,” the membership-growth and impact theme championed by Frank Cahill, which encourages clubs to think bigger, act faster, and multiply their reach in service to children and communities.

To officially charter a new club, Kiwanis International requires a minimum of 15 charter members. By doubling that number, the Jefferson Township club not only demonstrated extraordinary momentum, but also positioned itself to immediately expand its service footprint.

Reaching 30 charter members allows the new club to apply for a Kickstarter Grant through the Kiwanis Children’s Fund. The $1,000 grant can be used to launch a hands-on service project addressing the most pressing needs within the Jefferson Township community.

“This is exactly what Double Down with Frank is all about — building stronger clubs, faster, so we can serve more children right from day one,” organizers said. “Instead of meeting the minimum, this club chose to double its commitment and its impact.”

With strong leadership, enthusiastic charter members, and immediate access to grant funding, the Kiwanis Club of Jefferson Township is off to a powerful start as it joins a global network of volunteers dedicated to improving the world, one child and one community at a time.

Jefferson High School Principal Michael Lonnie, Kiwanis Charter Member Stephanie Kaulfers, Intermediate School Principal Peggy Widgren, New Jersey District Kiwanis Governor Frank Cahill, Superintendent Jean Howe, Kiwanis International Club Opening Specialist Miranda Burton, and Assistant Superintendent Roger Jinks met to discuss the expansion of Kiwanis Service Leadership Programs (SLPs) within the Jefferson Township School District.

During the meeting, participants explored how Kiwanis SLPs—such as Key Club at the high school level, Builders Club and K-Kids —provide students with meaningful opportunities to develop leadership skills, engage in hands-on community service, and foster a lifelong commitment to civic responsibility.

The discussion highlighted how SLPs complement academic learning by encouraging teamwork, empathy, and real-world problem-solving, while also offering students leadership training, mentorship from Kiwanis members, and opportunities to plan and lead service projects that directly benefit the local community. These programs are student-led, adult-guided, and designed to empower young people to become confident leaders both in and out of the classroom.

District administrators and Kiwanis representatives also reviewed steps to explore opportunities to expand Service Leadership Programs across additional grade levels, ensuring students throughout Jefferson Township have access to leadership development experiences aligned with Kiwanis’ mission of serving children and strengthening communities.
