⛈️🚤 Monsoon Awareness Week: Are You Prepared? 🚤⛈️

Monsoon storms can develop quickly and turn a calm day on the water into a dangerous situation in minutes. If you find yourself caught on the lake during a storm, remember these important safety tips:

⚓ Stay calm and do not rush toward the boat ramp or docks
🦺 Ensure all passengers are wearing life jackets and are positioned as low as possible in the boat
🌊 Keep the bow facing the waves at approximately a 45-degree angle and maintain a safe speed
⚓ If you lose power, anchor from the bow (using two anchors if possible) to help maintain your position and angle to the waves
💧 Keep the bilge area clear so pumps can operate effectively
🏝️ If conditions allow, move toward a sheltered cove at a safe speed and away from hazards
☂️ Safely stow your Bimini top and secure loose items on deck whenever possible
🚤 Most importantly: Stay with your boat and remain in navigable water away from obstructions.

The storm will pass. Your priority is keeping yourself and your passengers safe until it does. ⛈️ Caught in a Monsoon Storm? Stay Calm. Stay Aboard. Stay Safe.

🚤 Need a Captain? We've Got You Covered. 🚤

Planning a day on Lake Havasu and looking for someone to take the helm?

The Lake Havasu Marine Association's Designated Operator Program connects boaters with qualified, trained, and approved operators who can safely captain a vessel on our local waterways.

Whether you're entertaining guests, enjoying a special occasion, operating a rental boat, or simply want to relax and leave the navigation to someone else, our Designated Operators are sober, knowledgeable professionals who understand Lake Havasu and local boating laws.

Enjoy your day on the water with confidence, knowing an experienced operator is at the helm.

⚓ Safe. Responsible. Professional.

Interested in hiring a Designated Operator? Visit lhma.net to request one today!

To instill an awareness among recreational boaters that assigning the responsibility of a sober “Designated Operator” will significantly reduce the number of “under the influence” related boating accidents and fatalities on the water.

Memorial Day Weekend is here, and Lake Havasu is ready for a busy few days on the water!🚤🌊

As you head out to enjoy the lake, remember that boating safety starts with proper balance and passenger placement on your watercraft.

Before leaving the dock:
✅ Know your boat’s capacity limits
✅ Keep weight distributed evenly
✅ Seat passengers safely whenever possible
✅ Avoid sitting on the bow, sides, or with feet hanging overboard while underway
✅ Make sure everyone has a properly fitting U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket onboard — and wear it while underway

Overloading or improper balance can make your watercraft difficult to handle and increase the risk of taking on water or capsizing.

A safe day on the lake is a fun day on the lake. Let’s all do our part to keep Memorial Day weekend safe and enjoyable for everyone.

As the weather is heating up, Lake Havasu is getting busy! Which means more people and boats at our local ramps. Good ramp etiquette helps everyone enjoy their time on the water by minimizing delays, ensuring safety, and fostering a spirit of community among boaters. By being prepared, courteous, and efficient, you’re not only helping yourself but also showing respect for others who share the lake. Below are some tips to help make your Lake Havasu experience a great one!

*Be patient and courteous if there’s a line. Ramps can be busy, especially on weekends and holidays. Wait in the designated queue and avoid cutting in.

*Many ramps have clearly marked lanes for launching. Stay in your assigned lane to ensure a smooth process for everyone.

*When it’s your turn, back your trailer down the ramp smoothly. Take your time to align properly, but don’t linger unnecessarily.

*Once your trailer is in the water, start your boat’s engine while it’s still on the trailer. If the boat doesn’t start, return to the staging area to troubleshoot—don’t hold up the ramp.

*Once your boat is off the trailer, move it to a designated passenger loading area or away from the ramp. Don’t block the ramp for others.

*Once your boat is in the water, promptly return your vehicle and trailer to the parking area to make room for the next boater.

*Avoid tying up the ramp area if others are waiting. If you experience any difficulties, such as engine trouble, move to a staging area to resolve the issue.

*When you’re returning to the ramp after your outing, use the same courtesy. Wait your turn, follow the lane markings, and prepare your boat for trailering while away from the ramp.

*Just as you loaded your boat before approaching the ramp, wait until you’re in the parking lot or another designated area to unload your gear and passengers.
