When a local Havasu teen reaches out to earn money for a college summer program, we are happy to help! Jimmy is only 15 years old and was in foster care not too long ago. He was trained up inside of 6 hours and has already had 2 great conversations today!

The best parts... he has the gift of gab (and listening!) so he can take these skills and work for our associates or other companies anywhere!

The script can change, but his communication and skills are already growing.

Katie's House Foundation 501c3 is proud to provide financial literacy and opportunities to teens, as a starting point to ensure they can secure their own safe roommate housing at the age of 18, along with a reliable vehicle and work ethic.

Classes 5 & 6 at The Normalize Money Project put on by Katie's House Foundation 501c3 here in Lake Havasu:

This week the teens learned all about insurance, job hunting and investing!!

Over the course of more than 1 hour they learned what insurance is for, the various types that are available (so many!!) and what happens when you don't have it.

Included here was the importance of health insurance, life insurance and disability insurance, and how to set these up so the teens can provide for their future families.

Most people don't like to talk about money or death and yet 220,000 people die every year due to an accident.

If you have children, having a holographic will is the bare minimum, while a living trust is preferred + at least term life insurance which could be the difference between poverty or stability for your spouse/children.

Also what happens if you injure someone in your car, or your big ole dog bites someone? All these things that can happen and strip you bare.

In addition, the teens learned about reading and writing a resume, resume rabbit, how to get past online job bots, and how to greatly increase your chances that the recruiter or HR manager moves you to the top of their list for an interview.

We went over their individual Gallup Strengths Finder results and they incorporated that into their own unique 30 second elevator pitch... in preparation for our networking dinner here in LHC next week!

We also had a special guest. Brandi Cottingim Litzkow stopped in to share some sage advice on investing and how teens and adults can invest just $25 per week which compounds to over $1 million dollars.

This week the teens will take the money they have earned from this class during the pop quiz deal or no deal, and self invest that into a stock of their choice!

Sad to say we only have 2 classes left + our "graduation networking dinner" final class, where the teens will meet some local business owners who have volunteered to come and put them to the test.

Next summer, we'd love to have 50 kids or more (the whole 10th grade would be ideal) in these chairs 👇 or the HS gym learning financial literacy!

Wow, we had a lot of people respond to our most recent post in a local group, wanting to know 1. Is it free? 2. Where do we sign up? 3. When is the next class? Here are the answers and an update that the whole Lake Havasu community will probably want to know....

1. The Normalize Money Project® put on by is a 16 to 20 hour course and costs $250 for hard costs per student (online assessments, networking dinner, money games, etc.). It provides in-class education and life skills built into it, in real time. In 2025 we rolled it out to teens ages 15-19 in LHC, after offering a 36 hour version to teens in San Diego, CA and after offering a 24 hour course to adults in Birmingham, Alabama who lived inside our roommate housing/single family home we like to call boutique shelters. None of these age groups (teens or adults knew how to exit - because credit scores and budgets, and getting a job with online bots blocking you, can be HARD!)

2. You can go to KatiesHouseFoundation dot org to sign up your teen for the June 2026 in-person class or subscribe to our YouTube. Donate now to secure a spot for 2026. Your family is depending on you to change their perception and conversation, and most importantly their real education around credit scores and more in the current year. Due to group rules I don't think I'm allowed to post the website.

3. The next in-person class is in June 2026 in Lake Havasu City. I own several companies and work in private money and local real estate. I have someone interested in teaching our trademark 36 hour (est. 3 college credits condensed to 12 hours or estimate 1 college credit in Lake Havasu) and once she learns it, we will probably open up more monthly classes - probably night courses as we did in San Diego, CA.

4. The mission of Katie's House Foundation is to offer anonymous roommate housing to people who need it, for affordability reasons. But since we are a licensed shelter, and we want to cure housing insecurities using a community factor, we must offer financial literacy before, during, and after housing. We also need to build work ethic, confidence, communication skills, sleep, safety, emotional support, health care, and savings over more than 2 days (unlike a normal shelter) hence our 24-month length of stay - enough to really get someone on their feet and prequalify for a local lease or starter home purchase - with roommates they can tolerate, probably.

5. With this in mind, we are going to open up our equestrian land behind Walmart, to a local horse trainer to help teens and adults learn about budgeting for horse-related care + spend time with foundation horses.

6. If you have a horse and you want to board it in a new spot in Lake Havasu, please DM me.

7. If you are looking for a horse trainer right out of the rodeo circuit and several family ranches in NM, NV, and AZ, who now lives in Lake Havasu, please DM me.

8. If you are a Horse Veterinarian or a Horse Ferrier in Lake Havasu, please DM me.

9. Nearly the entire educational system is missing financial literacy (credit scores and more), and some towns or families are missing work ethic *opportunity & accountability - to no fault of their own* – largely due to busy parenting or work schedules – so please DM me if you want your kiddo(s) or family to get involved.

10. Our whole team at Katie’s House Foundation 501c3 is here to help. We hope you, your family, your company, and your church or groups will circle up with us this summer. DM me. More to come!

Classes 3 and 4 of The Normalize Money Project put on by Katie's House Foundation 501c3 in Lake Havasu City this month.

We didn't advertise through the high schools early enough so we have 6 teens. The girls didn't come this week.

The boys are half way through the 12 hours (equivalent to 1 college credit - vs 3 in San Diego) and this week they learned all about how to write checks, balance check books, report fraud, and how to buy their first car on their own!!

Did you know??

Teens can buy a car locally with 35% debt to income ratio and 6 months on the same job making 2k per month, plus a lease from their parents for room rent? Must have cancelled checks to their parents to match the lease for $100 or whatever per month!

This education matters!!

Here is a photo of the teens playing deal or no deal pop quiz yesterday.

They have earned about $100 each to invest next week!

Excited to announce that Katie's House Foundation 501c3 and a local Lake Havasu investment education firm will likely be teaming up to provide Financial Literacy education to adults, in particular those in sober living and aged out foster care.

Did you know??

Most adults in sober living and aged out foster care don't have an exit strategy... Because getting one in 30 days (or ever) is hard!!

Our first roommate house in Lake Havasu, for aged out foster care and female seniors (all local workers) is projected for 2026!

Must have a job and be able to manage a budget and clean up your credit or establish some, hence our educational courses.

The trades and local workers are so important!

Crazy deposits and 3x rent ratios make it hard but we can overcome that, responsibly and with long term exits to stop the cycle 🚀

Today we had two more students join us at The Normalize Money Project by Katie's House Foundation 501c3 in Lake Havasu. Perfect timing because we were talking about the fact that men live to be 74.8 years old right now and women live to be about 80 years old right now, on average. Women also make less money than men, usually, because they don't counter on job offers, when they should kindly ask if there is room in the offer based on their strengths and ex*****on. So if a women makes less and she lives longer, is that a potential financial issue? I think our two new teen girls were listening at this point.

The teens who did their homework overnight learned that they if they make $150,000 per year at the age of 18 - wow - and have nothing saved but put away some money each month... with going returns and going inflation, they will run out of money at the age of 76. No kids, no adult dependents. They surely need to pay off their home and find a way to make higher returns on their savings because if they live to be 95 and run out of money at 76, that might be painful. Or if their kids or elderly parents need help, that could also be painful. But hey, eye on the prize and there is no need to be scared of money, investing, or asking for a raise if you deserve it.

In addition, the teens learned how to read a real credit report today (boring!) but that a sub 640 credit score is not very good, and less than a 600 credit score with major derog could cost you a job offer, due to the perception of the potential for fraud or character concerns about upholding agreements.

Conversely, a credit score above 780 is the gold standard. The teens need 3 tradelines for 24 months and to pay them off each month in full. Capital One is their best best when starting out - easy credit and they must master the ability to repay it or speak to it when asked, to control their future in the current world....to leverage 0% interest rates on auto and credit cards, and establish a credit profile as soon as possible - because coming into a windfall is unlikely in life and mortgage companies look for 3 tradelines open and active for 24 months. Leasing agents, too.

With a 660 score I can potentially give an adult (age 18+) a loan for a fixer upper (no income verification, tax returns, employment verification, but they do need 100k down (hypothetically 6 of them can throw in on a 6 bedroom - roommate housing is a thing in college and life) and they can split the "rent"/mortgage and take equity out of the home over the course of a lifetime. They would need to refinance into an owner occupied loan before moving in - or perhaps one of them will own it and not live there.

The kicker however, is that with a 760 score and 7% interest rate the monthly payment is $2900 per month. And with a 660 score in my private money world the monthly payment could be as high as $5000 per month. What a big difference. The score matters by $2,100 per month in this example!! That could be money in their pocket all based on their credit. That is the real power.

Today was all about credit. How to find your report quarterly, dispute bad info, freeze it, unfreeze it.

At the end we played the deal or no deal pop quiz game and those were hard questions on the fly, but they each EARNED $10 or more.

They get to pick if they want another "case" and they get to see their risk tolerance and confidence in real time.

Whoever saves the most money or makes the most money during this class will earn an extra $50 on June 29th at our Graduation Networking Dinner in LHC.

Next week the teens get to take the money they have earned and we will look at historically safe stocks so they can open an account with the help of their parent or guardian and buy a few shares!

If you are a business owner in LHC and you'd like to come meet these teens on June 29th, please drop a comment below or DM me.

In week 4 the teens learn how to get past online job bots and shake hands. I'm sure they would love to shake hands with you and hear your words of wisdom!

The best thing about teaching a financial literacy class to teens is seeing how they act the moment the class starts and then how they are so excited when they leave. Like I said earlier - it's not about money. In class no. 1 we talk about perception of money (when you work for a bank or lender it's all you talk about - helping people grow it - but in real life some people are so scared of money and the mention, they shrink or get upset) and over the course of 1.5 hours the teens share their financial goals and life goals, their career plans, and some even speak for one another. By the end, they are spitting numbers and statistics, and they each earn $20 or so. They are all winners, unless they didn't hear me, but I know they did because they were engaged, and they are excited to know their own learning styles, retirement calculator (retire from what - if you love your "job" and design your life starting with the end in mind?) love languages, strengthsfinder used by fortune 500 companies, how to listen with depth, and much more. It's always jam-packed and each 1.5 hour session grows them. They walk out together way different than how they came in. And each class they stand taller.

Day 2 starts tomorrow.

If you want your teen to come (ages 15-19), please drop them off at Havasu Alliance Church @ 510 Acoma Blvd N @ 9:30 am and pick them up at 11 am.

We will catch them up and they will have a great time!
