With the support of the LGA, all property owners in the Lake George watershed can help protect water quality!

Stormwater runoff occurs when stormwater flows over surfaces that are unable to soak up water. This stormwater runs straight into Lake George, carrying harmful pollutants with it.

To help, the LGA offers stormwater management grants:
💧 Up to $10,000 available to residential and commercial property owners within the Lake George watershed.
💧 Supports projects that reduce runoff, erosion and pollutant discharge to Lake George.
💧 If you are just starting to plan a project, LGA can help you move it forward.
💧 Awards based on environmental and financial need; applications accepted on a rolling basis.
💧 Funding is reimbursement-based; projects must be completed before payment and receipts/documentation provided.

⚠️ Town of Putnam Putnam Disbands Planning Board Despite Overwhelming Community Opposition ⚠️

On May 14, Putnam Town Board passed a resolution, 4-1, to disband the Planning Board. The Site Plan Review Law currently stands. Public comment was restricted on this issue during the meeting. This decision was made despite recent overwhelming public support to maintain the Planning Board.

The LGA and Lake George Waterkeeper still believe that the Planning Board had an established and thorough review process and provided vital opportunity for public input and environmental considerations – all of which benefitted the community, as well as the water quality of Lake Champlain and Lake George.

With this change, the Town Board will now be responsible for land-use decisions and to implement the requirements of the Site Plan Review Law.

State agencies often issue exemptions for jurisdiction over local development, which is where the Putnam Planning Board provided knowledgeable, meaningful reviews on local projects. Without a trained Planning Board, the Town Board members – who lack the required, formal training and experience in land-use decisions – will now be responsible.

While we respect the dedication of the Town’s elected officials, we hope the Town Board will continue the open public participation process and prioritize environmental considerations that Town residents deserve.

The Lake George Waterkeeper and LGA will continue to monitor the actions of the Town Board to ensure that Lake Champlain and Lake George water quality, and community participation, are protected.

So we didnt get much of a sunrise this morning, but there was a heck of a sunset over the village and lake last night!

Here is a shot looking down Beach Road, and the Lake George Steamboat Company, towards the evening lights of the village with Prospect Mountain in the background.

I know there hasnt been a lot of history or story telling this week, unfortunately Ive been incredibly busy and havent had the time to do much research into making these posts. It takes me an hour+ to edit the photo and then another 30 minutes to an hour to research and write these posts, so needless to say when it's busy like this for me I will try to keep posting photos, so I hope that you can forgive me for nothing truly informative this week!
