We see too much suffering this time of year that is not preventable to not speak out on acts of deliberate cruelty, and it is the responsibility of all intelligent people to protect the innocent.

This beautiful nursing mama cottontail was shot in a backyard in the city of Burlington yesterday. Somewhere in the area where she was found there is a nest of babies orphaned by this cruel act.

What did the mama cottontail do to cause a human to hurt her? Did she take something from the garden planted in the place she calls home? There is no more innocent or vulnerable life than that of the Cottontail rabbit. It takes a very small person and unkind heart to hurt one such as this.

The kind person who rescued her is aware there is a nest and we are working with them to locate it.

Please report inhumane acts like this to the police.

Thank you to everyone who has donated from our Wish List- including Girl School Troop GSWISE 37856 — we have weaned many of our spring babies and they are now self feeding and set up with hammocks and water bottles provided by you!

Now…if anyone would like to purchase shelled unsalted pecans and walnuts…that would be wonderful! These babies aren’t ready for hard nuts yet.

If you would like to drop off a donation, just call and leave a message at 262-248-5055 #9 or you can purchase and have your gift shipped to us at W4632 Palmer Road, Lake Geneva WI 53147. 😘🐿️

14 hours later—they are still smiling😊

What a wonderful group of interns we have this summer. In a year that has seen record numbers of squirrels and opossum and woodchuck babies — and with a full songbird nursery and dozens of mallard and wood ducks and Canada geese goslings — these young women are rockstars.

Lee, Kennedy, Murphy, and Cassie - welcome to the wild side !

We are here all weekend and returning calls beginning at 10 am. If you need assistance please call 262-248-5055 and listen to our message and then leave one for us.

We stop returning calls at 6 pm. Our message has detailed instructions for people calling after that time.

It is currently taking us about two hours for a call back. Calls are returned in the order they are received; multiple calls only slow this process.

We admit animals only by appointment.

We do not monitor emails or social media for animal concerns. If people need help, they need to call and leave a message.

The majority of people who contact us are kind and patient - and we appreciate that as we —

1. Are not a business
2. Are not government or taxpayer funded
3. Are returning calls as quickly as we can between caring for approximately 500 patients.
4. Are the only licensed Rehabilitator in Walworth county and also serve multiple surrounding counties in Wisconsin and Illinois.

Please spread the word that we will help wherever we can — without asking anything except that —

People not come to the hospital without an appointment.

Thank you to our supporters for helping us share this message.

Let’s all stay safe this weekend and keep the wild ones safe too!

It’s with a sigh of relief we share these pictures of our first two interns and volunteer admit person Ben.

We have appointments every 15 minutes some days and currently have more than 100 hand- feeding squirrels, and close to 200 mallards, wood ducks, goslings, hand feeding songbirds, woodchucks, opossum, raptors and others.

Pictures are Kennedy Bates, Washington state, and Murphy Hunt-Sheaff, of Australia, most recently from Oklahoma.

Ben and his partner, Troy, Mary Ellen, and Dawn volunteer at the front desk, returning calls, making appointments, providing education and support to finders — and their work allows our rehabilitators to focus on wildlife care.

These wonderful people are why we are able to help so many wild ones and our caring community.

Do you have clean cotton comforters that you no longer need? We could use them for our larger patients, like the swan.

We cannot use blankets, cotton weave, or crocheted items.

You can drop off this week, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, or Saturday (May 6-9) from 12-5 or call to let us know if you can’t make those days and times.
