⚓ SERVICE BEYOND THE UNIFORM

As we prepare to celebrate the U.S. Navy’s birthday on October 13, Combat Vet Vision is honoring the legacy of service with a conversation about what happens when the uniform comes off—but the responsibility to serve continues.

This Tuesday, we welcome retired U.S. Navy Master Chief **Angel Escribano**.

Angel served 23 years in the Navy, rising to Master Chief Petty Officer. Today, he carries those leadership lessons into a new mission: helping service members, veterans, and military families better understand VA financing, homeownership, BAH, PCS-related housing decisions, and long-term financial stability.

We’ll talk about Navy leadership, transitioning from senior enlisted service, making informed financial decisions, and what it means to keep serving after retirement.

John “Jake” Saltzmann joins Combat Vet Vision Tuesday, October 6.

Jake’s journey includes Marine infantry service, Afghanistan, the difficult transition out of the military, PTSD, traumatic brain injury, addiction, recovery, and rediscovering purpose.

Today, he works with the PTSD Foundation of America / Camp Hope Houston Outreach Team, reaching veterans in crisis and helping connect them with resources, peer support, and community.

Tomorrow, we talk about what happened between those chapters.

And why sometimes the veteran who once needed someone to answer the call becomes the person answering it for someone else.

For John “Jake” Saltzmann, leaving the Marine Corps meant losing more than a uniform.

It meant navigating life without the purpose and identity he had known in service.

Jake had served as a Marine infantryman, deployed to Afghanistan, and carried significant responsibility during his time in uniform.

Afterward came another fight—one involving PTSD, traumatic brain injury, addiction, and finding his way forward.

That journey eventually led him to Camp Hope.

But that isn’t where Jake’s story ends.

It’s where another part of his mission begins.

Tuesday on Combat Vet Vision, hear how a Marine veteran and Camp Hope graduate turned recovery into an opportunity to reach other veterans.

What happens when the veteran who once needed help becomes the person answering the call for someone else?

Meet John “Jake” Saltzmann.

Jake is a Marine veteran and Camp Hope graduate whose journey took him from infantry service and Afghanistan through a difficult transition home—and eventually to Camp Hope.

Today, he serves other veterans as Assistant Manager of the Houston Outreach Team with the PTSD Foundation of America / Camp Hope.

On Tuesday, October 6, Jake joins Combat Vet Vision to talk about recovery, rediscovering purpose, veteran-to-veteran peer support, and why reaching someone where they are can matter so much.
