We are thrilled to announce the creation of The Warren Miller Memorial Scholarship.

The Warren Miller Memorial Scholarship has been established to honor his memory, his unwavering commitment to community, service to others and devotion to family.

It’s hard to think of Elmore without thinking of Warren. Most people knew him as the “Mayor of Elmore,” or simply, “friend”. Warren accomplished much in his lifetime. His commitment to service and community likely started at Peoples Academy, where he was a member of the class of ‘77. He was an active member of his class, including serving as President of the Future Farmers of America. Warren also met his wife Kathy at PA, and went on to spend his life with her. In 1983, they purchased the Elmore Store, which quickly became a mainstay of the community with Warren serving as ambassador for the town.
In addition to his unofficial role as “Mayor,” Warren was a founding member of the Elmore Fire Department (EFD), and member and Chairman of the School Board for two decades. He represented Elmore, Morristown, Worcester and Woodbury in the Vermont Statehouse, where he also served as Vice-Chair of Military Affairs. Warren was Elmore’s Constable and Fire Warden. He was active in, and often initiated events like the Elmore fireworks, the EFD Chicken BBQ benefit, the Polar Plunge, New England Dog Sled Races, and the annual turkey drive. Warren’s involvement in these events exemplified his commitment to the Elmore community. So, too, did his daily encounters with old friends and strangers alike. A man who was well known for wearing shorts 365 days a year, no matter the weather, could be found behind the register at the Elmore Store, ready to greet you with a story and a laugh. Warren was genuinely interested in others, and he was always willing to offer a helping hand. In the spirit of his service and generosity, the Warren Miller Memorial Scholarship has been established to help students continue their academic studies at the post-secondary level. It will be awarded annually to any member of the Peoples Academy graduating class who is an Elmore resident.
