Community Museum Society, Inc. The Community Museum Society (CMS) is a multi-faceted organization with representation in three key areas – art, agriculture, and history.

Currently, CMS manages the Historic National Bean Market, a 1936 National Register-listed community civic center; the Jones-Carter Gallery, a nationally recognized art exhibition space; the Lynches Lake Historical Society, which houses thousands of historic documents and artifacts for public research; the P*e Dee Region National History Day program, which developed and piloted a brand new primary

division in 2013; and, the Lake City Farmers’ Market, which serves the community through connecting local Farmers and produce to our residents. Additionally, the Community Museum Society provides major support to the annual ArtFields® competition, held in the spring each year.

Please join us on Friday, February 6 from 6pm to 8pm inside the Jones-Carter Gallery for the opening reception for The Sum of Many Parts: Quiltmakers in Contemporary America.

The works in The Sum of Many Parts: Quiltmakers in Contemporary America were part of a larger exhibition that toured China in 2012–2013. The exhibition is toured by ExhibitsUSA, a national program of Mid-America Arts Alliance, and curated by Teresa Hollingsworth and Katy Molone of South Arts, Atlanta, Georgia. ExhibitsUSA sends more than 25 exhibitions on tour to more than 100 small- and mid-sized communities every year. Based in Kansas City, Missouri, Mid-America is the oldest nonprofit regional arts organization in the United States.

The exhibition will be on view from February 6 through March 7. Admission is FREE. Large groups are encouraged to call ahead.

The Jones-Carter Gallery invites the public to attend a preview reception to celebrate the opening of the Smithsonian exhibition, William H. Johnson: An American Modern on Thursday, September 19 from 7PM to 9PM. The event will be held in the National Historic Bean Market building next door to the Jones-Carter at 111 Henry Street. Throughout the evening, enjoy live jazz music, heavy hors d'oeuvres and wine catered by Table 118, and access to the gallery before the official opening on September 21. Tickets to the event are $50 per person or $90 per couple. Tickets may be purchased in person at the gallery or by calling Gallery Manager, Hannah Davis at 843-374-1505. A limited number of tickets will be available at the door. Dress is black tie optional. We hope to see you there!

Okay Lake City, the Lake City Christmas Parade will be Friday December 2nd at 6pm! If you would like to be in the parade, please contact Krystal at the Museum office (374-1500). Deadline for entries is November 25th!
