Room In The Inn - Lake Charles partners with local churches and organizations to help feed and provide hospitality shelter evenings to those experiencing homelessness in our community. Inspired by the ministry work of Room in the Inn in Nashville, and recognizing a local need to do more for our homeless community, the vision began of inviting Lake Charles area faith communities to join together i

n the service of helping our neighbors in need. Currently there are 33 cities with Room In The Inn Programs across the country who work to bring together faith communities and numerous partners to serve those struggling with homelessness, offering hospitality shelter evenings through participating churches, food, health care, recovery programs, financial help with housing and more. Room In The Inn - Lake Charles is just beginning our journey and we hope that you'll join with us and become part of "The Inn Crowd"!

Thank you to Badger Daylighting for the generous $20,000 donation to Room In The Inn Lake Charles! We have so many people experiencing homelessness and/or people who need assistance staying in their current homes due to Laura and or Covid-19 related issues. The reach of the mission of RITI is evolving as God opens the door to new avenues of ministry!

FYI.... RITI received a call from LCPD asking that no one drive into the parking lot at the old Toys R Us store to feed or drop off anything in that location. The owner of the property made that request of LCPD and the officer was passing along the request. THANKS!

We were determined to have RITI / Trinity College Ministry Shower Day in spite of the rain. We met some new homeless friends and enjoyed seeing old ones as well. We were all blessed by the nice folks at Mi So Hungry food truck! They delivered Shrimp Fried Rice and Spicy Noodles! It was amazing! Thanks to Paul Pettefer and his staff at Laundry World for their Christian hospitality in allowing us to use his property for the shower trailer and for helping us with laundry for the homeless. Paul is always a blessing!!! The plan is to offer a Shower Day every other week during the summer in lieu of our summer shelter dates. If your church would like to partner with us, please let me know!

Update from Mt. Calvary Baptist regarding memorial service for Mr. Eddie Andrews:

“Thank you everyone for sharing about Mr. Eddie. It has assisted us in putting arrangements together for him. There will be a memorial service held Wednesday, March 25 at 11am, Mount Calvary Baptist Church 300 N. Blake Street. No Viewing. Limited seating (50 or less). You may contact the church office at 3374394603 for more information”....................
It is with a very heavy heart that I share the news of the passing of one of our dear friends. Mr. Eddie Andrews, age 53, was a beloved regular guest at Room in the Inn over the last 3 years.

Mr. Eddie was a life long resident of Lake Charles and was known by many. He was a quiet man, who like many, suffered with mental health issues. He was always kind to me and I’m thankful for him letting me be a part of his life. I enjoyed getting to know him and his many splendid stories he could tell. He loved the Dallas Cowboys football team, he loved to dress nicely in suits and dress shoes, he loved coffee (with lots of sugar!), he loved horses, loved onion rings, and he loved God too. I think he knew that we all loved him too.

Most recently Mr Eddie’s health had declined, he was hospitalized for over a week and we were very worried about him. He was discharged last week and unfortunately found unresponsive yesterday evening at a bus stop which he was known to sleep at.

I’m grateful for having known Mr. Eddie and all he taught me. I know I share this loss with all our RITI churches and volunteers who grew to love Mr Eddie.

May you rest in the arms of our loving Lord and ride those horses you always dream of!! đź’”

As our 3rd Winter Sheltering season is drawing to a close, we want to again thank all of our participating partner churches and volunteers! Without you, there simply would be no Room In The Inn! The is the BEST!!

Behind the scenes, we are an all-volunteer, hardworking RITI staff of just a few people (wearing many hats and looking pretty tired about now!) 🙋‍♀️ We could use your prayers as we discern the next steps to meet the growing staffing needs of our little ministry! 💙

Today’s photos are from Mt. Olive Baptist Church showing how is done!! Thank you for a wonderful host night!!

Final host night of our Winter Sheltering Season at St. Theodore/St. Pius partner churches!

To quote one of our RITI volunteers, “Thank you so much for being willing to step out of our comfort zones and share the love and light of Christ together! “ 💙💙💙

I only got a couple of photos from COTK’s last RITI host night. Someone blessed the homeless with a bunch of reading glasses and they were so very appreciative! We also just took one of our guests for an eyeglass exam. She was so thankful because she can’t even see to fill out an employment application. It’s sometimes the little things we take for granted.

Thank you to everyone who continue to bless our ministry with your time, talent and donations. ❤️
