Exposure to opportunities and creating experiences will impact lives. More just a camp, its the CYDA Experience. The list of activities is too long but the kids got a chance to have fun and meet local leaders in multiple areas including STEM, Sports, the Ward 3 Marshall Office, D.A.R.E, the LC Fire Department, Acadian Ambulance, and even pro skateboarding with Primo!!!

Join us for another year of Cardboard Canoes. Our Middle School kiddos are looking forward to defending their title.

From 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 3, 2025, aspiring canoe builders will once again set sail from the sandy shores of I-10 North Beach in Lake Charles.

The City of Lake Charles and the Region 5 STEM Center are teaming up to launch STEM-based fun with the third annual Canoe Building Competition!

Geared towards middle, high school, college and adults, teams can now register to participate in this unique contest. Teams will work to build their own cardboard canoe and then will have the opportunity to put their creation to the test on Saturday, May 3. Cardboard, tape and safety gear will be provided to teams. This will be a free and open to the public spectator event.

Prizes will be awarded for functionality, design and more!
