4th place in the state for UC High-Q! These kids stood up to some extremely fierce competition in the finals this morning. The competition was fast paced and nerve-wracking, but these kids kept their cool and really demonstrated their knowledge and ability to work together. They’ve come so far over the course of this season. Now for a fun afternoon before we wrap up the weekend with awards. Go Tigers!

Long time, no see High-Q fans! The page has been resurrected for an important update.

After a two year hiatus, the state academic team conference (Commissioner’s Academic Challenge) had returned and Union County High-Q is in the finals!!! These kids have worked hard to prepare for this tournament, and I could not be more proud of them. Now it’s time for a little relaxation and fun before they battle with 5 other teams for the top spot in the state tomorrow morning. If any fans would like to follow along, the finals will be live streamed tomorrow (9:00 am) at this link:

UC finished 6th in the state. It’s been a wild ride and I’m so thankful for the opportunity to work with these intelligent, talented young people. Although this is the last High-Q event for them, I can’t wait to see what’s next for my three seniors— Jared, Connor, and JD.

Who did it better? We decided to recreate our profile picture (now to be updated). All the students from the old photo have graduated or are seniors now, so the time has come to take a new trophy pic.

Congrats High-Q! Today we competed in our district tournament. JV took second and varsity took first! Both teams will compete in our regional conference in January. I continue to be in awe of these students’ wit and dedication.

Sorry for not updating in so long, High-Q fans!

Today was our last regular season match, and we are wrapping up another exciting fall with our team. After a series of heroic wins and a couple humbling losses, High-Q finished with a record of 4-1 for JV and 5-1 for varsity. All of these students have worked extremely hard this year— on top of balancing busy school schedules, almost all of them also juggle other extra-curriculars such as football, band, and FFA. They study and practice for High-Q with the little spare time they have. They’re fierce competitors who pour their hearts into every match. They push me to be a better educator and coach. I love these kids and feel privileged each year I’m able to work with them. Special shout-out to this year’s seniors— Connor Beighley (varsity captain), Jared Benton, JD Johnson, Alex Perez, Jonathan Schmidt, and Wesley Courson. Most of these kids have been with the team all four years of high school and it’s been an honor to watch them grow as competitors and scholars. As always, I want to thank the moderators, judges, and parents who support our team— we wouldn’t be here without y’all. Here’s to another amazing season for UCHS High-Q! ❤️

Also, special shout-out to team captain and senior, AP Griffis. At the state tournament, AP was selected as a member of Team Florida! This is a special recognition only given to the top six students in the entire competition. Along with the title and bragging rights, AP also received a $1,000 scholarship. We are extremely proud of AP and his accomplishments!
