Last week we had the opportunity to work with a new partner, the College of Lake County's Fast Paced program. We had such a great time with these gifted students and their families, celebrating the end of the school year with a fun collaborative Scribble project! Do you have a middle school student that scores in the 95th percentile and may need extra intellectual opportunities to grow? Check out this program: https://learn.clcillinois.edu/clc/FastPaced.jsp

The residents at Nicasa Behavioral Health Services Bridge House really embraced the calming effects of watercolors and doodling! We enjoyed jazz music and got in the zone while we created and then traced our Watercolor Blooms! We really love how comfortable and confident everyone is completing this project and it has been a great way to start up discussions surrounding Mental Health Awareness Month!

May is Mental Health Awareness Month! Creating art, like painting, drawing, and crafting, can help people work through their emotions, get out of
thought loops, and feel proud of their creations. These activities are also great at reducing stress. Experiments showed that even one 45-minute art-making session helped reduce stress hormone levels in 75% of participants (if you were at our ART:BRAIN event Thursday you learned all about Cortisol). This is the science Art Impact Project is based on! So get out there and scribble, color in those coloring books, play with sidewalk chalk and join us Wednesday morning at The Art Center Highland Park to complete a great art project, just register for free here:

It's been quite a week of programming at Art Impact Project! And our event was the perfect ending to the week! The atmosphere the attendees created at the first of the Prism events, ART:BRAIN Connection, was amazing! We will be sharing more about the event later, as well as the two upcoming events in the series, but all of us at Art Impact Project wanted to give a special thank you to our hosts and partner, Brushwood Center, our speaker, Joalida Smit, our Prism series sponsors Forever Om Yoga - Lake Forest and Mowery & Schoenfeld, LLC, and all our sponsors and guests that support our mission. And thank you to Heidi Torres Smith for the wonderful pictures! Have a great weekend and enjoy some art!

We completed our Quill project with the youth at Depke Juvenile this week. When we asked them to share their feelings about the project one student answered "It made me feel a lot better and more relaxed and chill." We're so happy to see young people embracing art making as a tool to better health!
