Hello family!
My dad asked me to share his message with you all for the 2024 Salazar Family Reunion. (Stacee)
Yeehaw Buckaroos! The Salazar family reunion for 2024 will be taking place August 2-4 in the beautiful Ruidoso New Mexico area. We are planning a Western theme for the reunion this year. We will have a roping dummy along with the usual horseshoe toss and of course some co****le competition. Along with this theme, I would like to have a steak cook-off this year so backyard grilling warriors start practicing. Since the beginning of the cattle industry in the United States, some of the best cowboys in the world have been Hispanic and would have been called vaqueros. Horses were brought to the US by the Spaniards and they have traditionally been some of the best horsemen in the world. My dad, Mike Salazar, was a big fan of Westerns and the cowboy way of life. He loved wearing his black hat and some of the best pictures we have of my dad were when he was wearing that hat. When I was a kid we piled the family into the old station wagon and made a trip to El Paso Texas to “visit family”, but it was really a trip to the American hat company outlet store so Dad could buy his hat. My mom, Emily, was a huge fan of the Mexican singing legend Antonio Aguilar and we had the privilege of seeing him perform at the fairgrounds in Roswell, New Mexico. He was an outstanding horseman and his horses were a big part of the show. Dad used to talk about old TV westerns like Wanted Dead or Alive, Wagon Train, and Wyatt Earp. Dad was so influenced by these characters that during the CB radio days of the 1970s, his handle or name on the radio was the B bar B rider, which was a name he got from these western heroes in his early childhood. Farming and ranching have been a part of the Salazar family lifestyle since the beginning of the family. Grandpa Ysidro was a farmer in the Pecos Valley all of my early life and he would work 6 and half days a week with Sunday mornings dedicated to attending mass. The influence of the Western way of life continued during my childhood. We would attend the Lea County Fair and Rodeo every year and that was when my love of bull riding began and I am still a fan to this day. Take a look at our old family photos and you will see farming and ranching, cowboy hats, and boots. God bless the Salazar family and stay tuned for more information about t-shirt orders.
