Our History
Women’s Club of Lake Arrowhead is one of the oldest clubs in the mountain communities; founded in 1926 by community matriarch and educator, Mary Putnam Henck. The object of the club is to develop interest in and support of the civic, cultural, and educational advancement of the community and promote social unity of its members. Over the years, Women’s Club of Lake Arrowhead has contri
buted hundreds of thousands of dollars to many nonprofit organizations and scholarships to students pursuing advanced education. WCLA’s major outreach is in the form of scholarships awarded to deserving local high school and college students. Since 2010 alone, we have awarded forty-eight scholarships totaling $60,000. In addition, WCLA offers financial support to many community charities. A partial list of recipients includes American Legion Post 360, Hearts & Lives, Mountain Meals on Wheels, Mountains Community Hospital Foundation, National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Rim of the World Historical Society, Special Olympics Rim Mountain Communities Local Program, and Veterans of Foreign Wars 9624 Post Auxiliaries. The Club meets at noon on the third Wednesday of every month at different venues to support local businesses, and provide special presentations on nonprofits in need, fitness and wellness programs, and other topics of interest to our members.
