My youngest daughter Melody Graham and I had the privilege of preparing/serving a Christmas morning breakfast at Bath Township Police Department for a few of our Clinton County law enforcement officers.

This makes 10 years now that we have been getting up around 430am to go in and have breakfast ready for shift change. We had officers from Bath Township PD, City of DeWitt PD and DeWitt Township PD.

I'm thankful for the dedication and service to our communities that these officers/departments provide even while most are home enjoying their families.

The No Senior Without Christmas event was a great success! We delivered nearly 40 totes of Christmas gifts and non-perishables to Seniors in Bath Township last Wednesday during the snow storm. They were all very thankful!

We had a great time working with Bath Township Fire Department - Michigan for No Senior Without Christmas this week!

This is the 25 year anniversary of this awesome event!

One aspect of being a "cop chaplain" is being shot and/or arrested more times than I can remember! 5.56 Simunitions rounds are no joke! Just another example of the need to put on the "Whole Armour"!

Officer-Involved Shooting Under Investigation

On July 12, 2025, at approximately 2:27 p.m., officers from the Bath Township Police Department responded to a trespassing call for service in the 6000 block of Heathfield Drive near Pine Hollow Drive. The initial caller stated that a suspicious individual was walking through yards and attempting to break into vehicles. The caller stated that the suspect entered a garage at a neighbor’s residence, and he was not seen again.
Shortly after receiving this information, Central Dispatch received a second call from a resident in the 16000 of Nichols Road near Pine Hollow Drive. The caller advised dispatch that he had been stabbed by an unknown person who entered his home.

Upon arrival, officers made an entry into the home on Nichols Road. Officers encountered the victim and offender inside the residence. The offender held the victim hostage with a knife to the victim’s throat. During the encounter, the offender separated from the victim and fled out of a side door of the residence. The offender was still in possession of the knife and began running from the scene.

Officers on scene gave numerous orders for the offender to stop, however he continued to run towards the Meadows neighborhood. Both officers on scene discharged their service weapons.
The offender gained access to a residence on English Oak Drive and locked the door behind him. Officers attempted to breach the door to the residence. The resident of the home heard the officers yelling and kicking the door. The resident came to the front door and made contact with the officers. The uninjured resident was removed and evacuated from the home. The resident did not know the offender had entered the home.

Shortly after gaining entry to the English Oak residence, the offender fled from the residence and ran towards the next-door neighbor’s residence. One officer discharged his service weapon as the offender entered the neighbor’s garage. Officers apprehended the offender after a short struggle. A taser was deployed, and the offender was taken into custody. Officers on scene immediately rendered aid to the injured offender and requested emergency medical services.

All of the victims involved in this incident were treated on scene. The offender was transported to UM Health – Sparrow Hospital, where they are currently listed as being in stable condition. We believe this incident is contained and there is no ongoing threat to the public. No officers were injured during the incident. The Bath Township officers involved have been placed on administrative leave, per department policy.

This matter is being thoroughly investigated by the Michigan State Police, in accordance with standard procedures for officer-involved shootings. Video footage is being reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation. A critical incident briefing video will be posted publicly in the coming days.

We would like to thank the following agencies for their support: DeWitt Township, City of DeWitt, Clinton County Sheriff’s Department, Clinton County Central Dispatch, Meridian Township, and the Michigan State Police.

Further details will be released as the investigation progresses.

Day 3 of the Tactical Operations & Public Safety Training Conference put on by the Ohio Tactical Officers Association proved to be extremely beneficial.

26 other tactical officers and I started the day with 8 hrs on the live fire range taking Red Dot Pistols for Law Enforcement by Modern Samurai Project. CEO Scott Jedlinski is an accomplished shooter and has instructed many of the top tier tactical teams at the federal, state and local level. Scott was assisted by Veteran police Sergeant and Tactical Team Commander Jim Dexter

The day concluded with an awards banquet where several individual and team awards were presented for life saving and acts of heroism.

It's an honor to train alongside these dedicated professionals from all over the midwest.

No birthday cake for my birthday this year, but I did spend the day on Lake Macatawa doing boat handling, high speed manuvering, "traffic" stops and rescue response with a bunch of new marine patrol deputies from counties all over the state. The Ottawa & Allegan County Sheriff's Office have done a phenomenal job and put a tremendous amount of work into this 2025 Marine Patrol Academy.

It was a great night honoring some of the deputies, staff and community partners in Clinton County who were given awards for their hard work and excellent service.

What an honor to be able to bring them before the Lord in prayer before the ceremony started!
