We are using an innovative approach to educate and empower children, farmers, and communities in the

The goal of WELL Africa is to eradicate child labor in the cocoa supply chain, and other sectors, with a new and integrated plan which takes into consideration all contributing factors.

• We will build the first school in Touih. Touih is a village formed by 90 farm camps with 20,000 inhabitants. A survey made by our team in Touih found that 591 children are out of school, which represents 53% of

the child population.
• We will empower entire communities through youth education.
• We will initiate an innovative and integrated education system.
• We will work to promote and protect children's rights.
• We will strengthen existing community-based organizations.
• We will improve income and livelihood for cocoa-producing households.
• We will teach business skills to farmers to facilitate more effective trade with suppliers.
• We will increase cocoa quality and productivity at the farm level. Nous utilisons une approche innovante pour apporter une éducation et rendre autonomes les enfants, les agriculteurs, et les communautés en Côte d'Ivoire - la capitale mondiale du cacao. L’objectif de WELL Africa est d'éradiquer le travail des enfants dans la chaîne d'approvisionnement du cacao avec un plan innovateur qui prend en considération tous les facteurs.

I get asked often about the real impact of the work we do with WELL Africa. Why do I think, for example that education is what is needed to end child labor and to break the vicious cycle of poverty ? The answer is in this video. A young girl that 5 years ago could not read, write, or do anything that now can do high level math with no calculator. She is why we do what we do. She is proof that anyone can be anything in life with hard work, determination, and the basic support structure in place. She is the hope of her village where farmers have been ripped off for decades because of their inability to read and write. She is the hope of a community that can now dream of having one of their own achieve great things in life. She is the hope of a nation craving for someone to find the cure for malaria, AIDS, and other deadly diseases in Africa. She is the future, and we stand ready to do what it takes to allow her to be.

Heroes:

Father Germain Kalari is a catholic priest ministering in northern Ivory Coast in a small city called Katiola. I had the fortune of meeting him about 2 years ago during the lockdown.

Through a tragic personal experience, he learned that hundreds of children were being rejected and often killed at birth, especially when the mom dies during birth or due to either mental or physical handicaps.

When he learned about this practice, he decided to act. Not knowing exactly what to do to give these children a chance to live, he opened up an orphanage that is now home for 45 of these abandoned babies and children. In addition to giving them the chance to live, he is making sure they all get an education.

While we are all fighting and arguing over race, religion, and politics, father KALARI is a good reminder of what we could accomplish when we appeal to the best version of ourselves as humans. He teaches us what it means to love God and our fellowmen and does it by feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, giving a shelter to the homeless, taking care of widows and orphans, and more… he is my personal hero and example.

Women could be, if given the opportunity, the positive force that would help prevent, fight, and ultimately eliminate child slavery.
We organized the women into a co-op and taught them the basic business principles that would hopefully propel them towards success. In addition to the training, we introduced the microfinance concept to them.
To date, we’ve helped organize 3 co-ops and trained more than 500 who are currently receiving funding through the microfinance programs that we initiated together with them. Our team continues to provide the necessary assistance and coaching to these brave women that have invested in farming and other small businesses.
