Come and Swim with the Most Interactive Dolphins in the World with Whaleman Founder Jeff Pantukhoff who will be celebrating Whaleman’s 32nd Anniversary there!

All proceeds go to our “Save the Whales Again!” Campaign.

It is here, in the shallow waters that edge the Gulfstream, that for over thirty years snorkelers have been interacting with an extended pod of friendly dolphins and Jeff has been leading trips here for over 20 years! Over the years and generations, this pod has shown an unparalleled curiosity and joy in engaging with people, freely approaching swimmers to happily cavort and frolic for as they choose, whether for minutes or for hours. There are no concrete tanks, no feeding, no behavioral conditioning or manipulation of any sort, just wild dolphins in their natural environment interacting of their own free will, exactly the way it is meant to be!!

The largest heart on Earth is the size of a small elephant. It belongs to the blue whale. Right now, massive gas projects threaten to destroy their home in the Gulf of California forever.
The proposed Saguaro Energia and AMIGO LNG projects include building large shipping terminals to export fracked gas from the United States to Asia. That means more harmful pollution and huge gas tankers moving through this fragile, irreplaceable ecosystem.
If we work together, we can protect the Gulf of California for good.

The Whaleman Foundation is celebrating our 30th Anniversary this month!

In early March, 1995, our founder Jeff Pantukhoff, took a short vacation trip to experience the friendly gray whales at San Ignacio Lagoon which was the last pristine mating and birthing lagoon for the California gray whale and a United Nations World Heritage Site and Whale Sanctuary.

On his last night there, Jeff was told that that Mitsubishi and the Mexican government planned to build the world’s largest industrial salt plant right in the heart of San Ignacio Lagoon and literally something inside him snapped saying to himself “Over my dead body”.

On March 5th, 1995, Jeff returned to work and immediately resigned and started The Whaleman Foundation.

Jeff’s first film, “Gray Magic – The Plight of San Ignacio Lagoon” featuring Pierce Brosnan and his wife Keely Shaye Smith, was presented and distributed to all the delegates attending the United Nations meeting in Kyoto, Japan in December, 1997. It was at this meeting that the landmark “Kyoto Protocols” were adopted and the UN also decided to send investigative teams to San Ignacio Lagoon and to Scammon’s Lagoon, where there was already an existing industrial salt plant, as a direct result of “Gray Magic” which compared and contrasted both lagoons.

The UN then met with President Zedillo of Mexico and put pressure on him to not build the salt plant. After a surprise visit to the lagoon by President Zedillo and his wife and children to experience the whales, on March 2nd, 2000, President Zedillo announced that he was not going to allow the salt plant to be built and he forever decreed to protect and preserve San Ignacio Lagoon.

So not only are we celebrating our 30th Anniversary but we are also celebrating the 25th Anniversary of saving the Lagoon!......................................................................................................................................................

NORWAY:

Over the last 10 years (2016–2025), a total of 4,915 minke whales have been killed (an average of 492 whales per year, more than the annual catches of Iceland and Japan combined → Norway's whaling operates comparatively under the radar).

-Studies and catch statistics show that most of the whales killed in Norway are pregnant females: in 2024, for example, 301 female minke whales were killed, more than half of which were pregnant. This means that, in addition to the adult females, around 170 unborn calves were also killed.

-It is not by chance that pregnant females are particularly targeted. They often stay in food-rich coastal regions and move more slowly due to their pregnancy. They also have to come to the surface more often to breathe, which makes them easier targets for the whalers.

-This fact contradicts the often-voiced claim that whaling is sustainable. The frequent killing of pregnant females contradicts the Government of Norway’s claim that whaling is sustainable:
whales are long-lived animals with slow reproductive cycles. Killing pregnant whales therefore not only has a double impact on the current population size, but also massively affects its stability and ability to regenerate.

-According to a report, only one-third of the whale meat produced during the 2021 hunting season was sold to grocery stores. It is common practice to simply throw parts of the whales, including meat and blubber, back into the sea.

In 2022, 36 tonnes of minke whale meat were illegally shipped from Norway to Finland for use in dog food. This was not an isolated incident: even today, whale meat is still used in dog food.

-Whale meat products are deliberately targeted at tourists as souvenirs, even though the import into other countries is illegal..................................................................................................................................................
