Every year, we take a moment to stop and say: thank you to our employees.

Earlier this year, at the LBPD Annual Banquet, we had the honor of sponsoring and celebrating the officers and staff who go above and beyond: earning Lifesaving Medals, commendations, and the titles of Officer of the Year and Professional of the Year.

Thank You Officer James Rose. Officers Jon Greenwalt and Adam Meyer. Armita Bastani. Larry Wohrman. Officer Michaela Milone. And our incredible K-9 team. represent real moments of courage, dedication, and service to our Laguna Beach community.

This weekend, LBPD officers were out looking out for our community and visitors, with a simple message: know your limits.

"City funding cannot do the job alone. That's where the LBPCF plays a critical role."

Board Member Tom Gibbs knows this firsthand. Before joining our Foundation, he served as Vice Chair of the Laguna Beach Emergency Disaster Preparedness Committee, working directly with our Police Chief and department on budgets, recruitment, and officer needs. That experience showed him exactly where the gaps are, and why community support has to fill them.

Scholarships for officers' kids. The Police Honor Guard. Support for officers and families in times of crisis. These aren't extras. They're what helps LBPD recruit and retain the best officers, and what tells every member of our force that this community has their back.

Mark your calendars: International Coastal Cleanup Day is coming back to Laguna Beach on Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 9am to 12pm at Aliso Beach.

Officers, city partners, and neighbors all show up to keep our coastline safe, clean, and pristine, proof that protecting Laguna Beach is a community effort.

Bring gloves, a bucket, water, and sunscreen, and come be part of it. Every piece of trash pulled off that sand is a win for our marine life and our beaches.

In 2019, Pablo received an LBPCF scholarship as a senior of LBHS. Today, he's a Laguna Beach Police Officer serving the same community that once supported him.

"Growing up in Laguna Beach, I know firsthand what community support means, and it played a huge role in who I am today."

Pablo grew up in a low-income family and experienced domestic instability firsthand. That experience gave him a strong desire to protect others, especially youth growing up in homes affected by domestic violence.

"Being awarded this scholarship took a huge weight off my shoulders financially. It gave me the freedom to focus on my classes and learning, which played a huge role in building a strong foundation for my career."

His advice to LBHS students: make smart decisions, be dedicated, be determined, be disciplined. Because as he puts it, "the quality of your life is largely built by the quality of your choices."

"This community stepped up and supported us when we needed it most. Working for LBPD is my way of giving back to the community that took care of us."

This is what your support makes possible. Not just a scholarship, but a future officer who understands this community from the inside out.
