UTAH FACTS:
The Beehive State: All Buzz, No Honey
❌ Republicans have controlled the governor's office and both chambers of the Utah Legislature continuously since 1985, 4 DECADES, and currently hold veto-proof supermajorities in both chambers.
AN F FOR QUALITY OF LIFE
❌ CNBC ranked Utah 45th for quality of life in 2026, the 6th worst state in America
❌ CNBC gave Utah an F, scoring just 95 out of 290 points
❌ Utah's $7.25 minimum wage covers only about 16.5% of the cost of living for a family of four
❌ Utah has just 513 licensed child care centers for about 3.5 million residents
❌ Utah had 0.26 licensed child care spaces per child, the lowest rate in the country
HEALTH CARE ACCESS
❌ 47th for primary care providers, 240.2 per 100,000 residents
❌ Only 79.4% of Utah adults have a dedicated health care provider, ranking 43rd
❌ 41st for cancer screening among adults ages 40 to 75
❌ 39th for HPV vaccination among adolescents

REPUBLICANS REWROTE THE VOTE
❌ Utah voters approved three major citizen initiatives in 2018. Lawmakers replaced or rewrote all three
❌ Medical cannabis passed with 52.75%. Lawmakers replaced it in a special session on December 3, 2018, the first business day after it took effect
❌ Medicaid expansion passed with 53.32% and would have covered up to 150,000 more Utahns. Lawmakers replaced it with a narrower plan
❌ Full expansion to 138% of poverty did not take effect until 2020
❌ Anti-gerrymandering Proposition 4 passed with 50.34%. Lawmakers weakened it and drew their own map
❌ In 2025 a judge ruled lawmakers had unconstitutionally repealed Proposition 4 and ordered the congressional map redrawn

THE DRYING GREAT SALT LAKE
❌ The Great Salt Lake has lost two thirds of its surface area, exposing about 800 square miles of dry lakebed, an area the size of Maui
❌ That lakebed holds arsenic, lithium, copper and other metals above EPA residential and industrial standards, and it blows into communities where 2 million people live
❌ Utah's exposed lakebed is already more than 16 times the size of Owens Lake in California, where dust control has cost Los Angeles ratepayers more than $2.5 billion
