R STAR Foundation

R STAR Foundation Eliminating Poverty in Nepal via work with the neglected rural village women, primarily in the Kavre District (State). Two goats quickly turned into 89.

Dedicated to bridging the gaps that have left people, especially women and children, isolated and disempowered in Nepal. Through simple acts of connecting with people who need them most, we are changing the world one heart at a time, towards world peace.”

R Star Foundation began by a happenstance meeting in Durber Square, Kathmandu, Nepal, between an 11-year-old boy, Rabin, and Rosalind Russel

l in 1988. They stayed in touch over the years, and met again 15 years later at which time the R Star Foundation began its journey and mission of ‘women helping women and children in Nepal…therefore the world’. Its purpose: to serve and educate the isolated and disempowered women and children of Nepal by connecting resources to the neediest people in remote areas and helping to bring about peace. Thus began Rosalind’s adoption of this young boy’s family and their adoption of her. Rosalind promised to come back and returned several years later. She wanted to bring the family a gift that would help them, and decided on 2 pregnant goats. She discussed the idea with some local friends in California, and lo and behold, they each wanted to donate goats too. The process is: 25 women are put into a group. Each woman receives 2 pregnant goats, and each group receives a male goat for breeding. Thirteen years later, and over 15,000 gifted goats, RSF has lifted these women to income generators. At the same time the goat gifting began, RSF was also able to create micro-financing seed money to further uplift these women to get small loans to help advance their own personal ventures. RSF is a 100% volunteer organization, and unique in that 100% of all funding received goes towards serving over 48 villages in the remote area of Kavre. RSF was also able to build a school in this area and the children educated there test out in the top 10% of the entire nation. The biggest challenge facing RSF now is getting enough funding to restore some normalcy to these villagers and villages following the barrage of devastating earthquakes and aftershocks that began in April, 2015. Our focus is to get the funding so we can continue our work to help local disaster teams get food, tarps/tents, mosquito netting, temporary housing and medical care teams to these villages. Monsoon season is coming soon, and will make it even more difficult to reach these areas. Time is of the essence. Our near future business opportunities are focused on getting things back to “normal” including: rebuilding the school as well as homes for 30,000 affected people. We will then re-focus our efforts on our original mission of women helping women (establish businesses) and children (receive an excellent education in a safe and nearby location). As a result, women and children of this region get the opportunity to thrive and experience peace.

$25,000 would greatly help RSF do a number of things. The first on the list is repairing the school. Currently the school has been reopened, albeit under a tarp! We were able to re-open on June 9th thanks to the coordination and devoted efforts of the teams in Nepal and here in the US. We need to reinforce the walls, install an iron safety railing, repair the roof and ceiling. Remaining funds will help get the necessary supplies of food and medicine to this area. Mentorship will help manage these processes while keeping the school open, as well as mentorship to leverage the remaining funds to begin rebuilding the destroyed homes. RSF has grown by sheer will and passion. RSF is committed to ensure these remote villages and villagers get the help they need, as quickly as possible. The funding will help these villages get back on their feet to continue their journey towards peace and prosperity.

Happy 2083!!
Happy Naya Barsha, The Nepali New Year Baisakh, 2083 BS, fell on Tuesday, April 14, 2026. Nepal follows the Bikram Sambat calendar, which is 56 years and 8 months ahead of the Gregorian calendar that we follow; the year 2026 corresponds to 2083 in Nepal.

Greek Easter was the 12th, as they too follow a different calendar. Whatever calendar you are on, we wish you the finest of celebrations!

Mother’s Day is less than a month away, May 10th, to be exact. Life presents us grand-reasons to celebrate.

We of R Star are celebrating on our own calendar. When we have the means, we gift goats! 3 weeks ago we gifted 2 more villages 100 goats. Rabindra, our Director in Nepal, over saw the purchase and delivery of goats along with the agreements each village signs. My sweet buhari, (daughter-in-law), Naryani, and 2 of my eldest Nepali grandchildren, Rabyani & Ratik), were present to help and observe.

The 2 receiving villages were the most organized we have encountered in all our gifting years. The village has been on the waiting list for over 2 years. They were rejoicing greatly. They know the difference the goats make because of our long history in Nepal doing this work. 23 years!

They know the financial independence with our gift leads them out of poverty while also providing education for their children with the new income. We have a mighty program in place, and you are helping us to continue because of your generosity.

For the sake of brevity, more stories will arrive in another publication for you to enjoy with more photos.

BECAUSE OF LOVE

It is true.

Because of Love, R Star is flourishing in the help we give to the rural area of Kavre, Nepal.

Nepal is not a 3rd World Country, rather it is an ‘’Under Developed Country”, a far lesser position in the world, listed right there with Afghanistan and others who have the least in the world from housing, food, and education, plus.

The work we have in place does change lives. We can only do it because of our donors and supporters. We are making a continued difference in the lives of people we serve. Thank you.

Kathmandu Project Update

Our newest project to lift 6 women who are gifted writers in Nepal recently reported By Anjali Subedi: A quiet yet powerful milestone for Gargi Media (and for R Star):

Following the distribution of laptops on 28 November, made possible with the generous support of R Star Foundation joining with us, we held our first virtual meeting with six extraordinary women, each a dreamer, each a fighter – coming from Dalit communities, (untouchable cast), survivors of violence, and persons with disabilities.

The meeting on Saturday, 14 December, became a space of reflection, gratitude, and emerging confidence. Participants shared how a simple yet transformative tool- a personal laptop – has already begun reshaping their daily lives and aspirations.

Dhana Pariyar, (one of the 6 women), spoke of the relief and freedom of finally being able to complete her articles independently; earlier, she had to rely on sharing a computer at her workplace. Sarita Thulung , (another of the 6), shared with quiet pride that she has now been able to work consistently and complete her Master’s thesis, something that had earlier felt daunting and delayed. And then came a lighter, joyful moment- our youngest participant, Binita Bardewa, shared how she watched the IPL (Cricket games), with great excitement on her own laptop, a small yet telling reminder that empowerment also includes joy, curiosity, and a sense of belonging in the digital world.

These stories reminded us that access is not a luxury – it is dignity with a voice otherwise dismissed.

The one-hour virtual session was guided by Anjali Subedi and Pravin Kumar Yadav, volunteer mentors, professional journalists from Gargi Media, outlined the upcoming three-month program focused on leadership development, media skills, and digital empowerment. The energy in the room, though virtual, was deeply real, hopeful, and committed. It was not just a meeting. It was the beginning of a journey, where tools meet trust, and dreams find direction.
Note: Gargi Media, with the support of the R Star Foundation, located in the USA, distributed new HP 15-inch laptops to six women at an event in Kathmandu on 28 November, 2025. Three of the six women, ages 17 to 36, are persons with disabilities, and several faced caste discrimination and domestic violence. (News covered by The Himalayan Times and on the Gargi website)

Have no doubt what you do for R Star is making a difference, a direct and life-changing experience for these 6 women and those who will follow them in the mentoring program

Consider A beautiful goat as a gift to your beloved given to R Star along with chocolate and flowers to your loved one this day of Valentine’s Day to say you care in BIG ways. Did I mention you will be seen as all the more loving and caring and receive a tax write off for the gift to us though not for the candy and flowers?
