🔥Member Monday: Firefighter/EMT Hunter Bass🔥

This week’s Member Monday spotlight is on Firefighter/EMT Hunter Bass, assigned to Station 4 on A Shift.

Hunter has been with the LaGrange Fire Department for two years and has already built a reputation as a dependable firefighter who can always be counted on. Whether it’s training, station projects, or daily duties, Hunter is always working and rarely found standing still. His strong work ethic and willingness to help make him a valued member of the crew.

What inspired you to become a firefighter?
“I really just thought it was cool and a good opportunity at a career with a chance to help people along the way.”

What’s one piece of advice you’d give to new recruits?
“Keep your head down and stay in the books. A firefighter is made between the ears.”

Favorite firehouse meal?
Steak and potatoes.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re off duty?
“I like to piddle and tinker around the house.”

Who’s your hero?
His grandfather.

Who makes up your family?
Hunter and his wife, Maggie, will celebrate their one-year wedding anniversary this month. They also have a dog named Max and a cat named Cleo.

What do you value most about your crew and the fire service?
“The brotherhood that you create amongst other firefighters in and out of your department.”
“The fact that we’re just a couple of guys willing to put it all on the line for each other.”

Favorite nickname?
“Bass.” (Although most people would tell you that’s less of a nickname and just what everyone calls him.)

Outside the station, Hunter also represents Local 3615 on the IAFF 3615 Softball Team. This summer, he’ll continue advancing his career by attending Advanced EMT (AEMT) school.

Hunter’s dedication, reliability, and willingness to work have made a positive impact during his time with LFD, and we’re excited to see what the future holds for him.

Thank you, Hunter, for your commitment to the department, your crew, and the citizens we serve.

MURPH 2026 🇺🇸

This Memorial Day weekend, members from all three shifts came together to complete the annual Murph Challenge in honor of Michael P. Murphy and all those who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

From weighted vests to full gear ensembles, our personnel pushed through every mile, rep, and round as a reminder that Murph is more than just a workout, it’s a tribute to courage, sacrifice, and brotherhood.

“Murph” was originally created by Lt. Murphy himself as a workout he called “Body Armor,” before it later became one of the most recognized Hero WODs in the country following his death during Operation Red Wings in Afghanistan.

Proud of the dedication shown by everyone who participated both on and off shift.

Never forget the fallen. 🇺🇸🚒💪

This week’s Member Monday spotlight is on Sergeant/EMT-I Chris Greathouse!

Chris is currently assigned to Station 3 on C Shift and has dedicated 22 years to the LaGrange Fire Department, with nearly 30 years of total service to the City of LaGrange. Before joining the fire service, Chris worked in Parks & Recreation for a year and then spent almost seven years with the Landscape Department.

Chris graduated from Rookie School 26, Battalion 13, and was promoted in 2010. Since he was a kid, Chris knew he wanted to become a firefighter, and that passion has carried throughout his career.

When asked what advice he would give to new recruits, Chris said:
“Enjoy the ride. Listen and soak up as much as you can from the guys around you.”

Outside of work, Chris enjoys deer and turkey hunting, and his favorite firehouse meal is hamburger steak with onion gravy, mashed potatoes, and turnip greens.

The part of the job Chris enjoys most is “helping change somebody’s life that needs us in a true time of need.”

Thank you, Sgt. Greathouse, for your years of dedication, leadership, and service to the citizens of LaGrange and to your brothers and sisters in the fire service! 🔥👏

LaGrange Firefighters recently wrapped up an outstanding NPQ Firefighter II course at our training center.

Over five days, seven LaGrange firefighters and one firefighter from Heard County trained through demanding Firefighter II topics including survival, foam operations, extrication, and live fire evolutions with PT kicking off each morning before moving into the day’s instruction.

This class was a great example of LaGrange firefighters investing in the craft, pushing each other, and continuing to raise the bar through training and professionalism.

Proud of our members for their work and proud to help develop the next level of firefighters.

Training matters. Brotherhood matters.

Our training ensures we give our best to the citizens of LaGrange each and every day.

🔥Member Monday: Firefighter/AEMT Rusty Brown🔥

Firefighter/AEMT Rusty Brown is currently assigned to Station 4 on A-Shift, the busiest station in the city.

Rusty came to LaGrange Fire Department after serving with Troup County Fire Department, where he worked as both a firefighter and Training Captain. He began his fire service career with Troup County Fire Department in 2015 and has now been with LFD for more than three years, giving him over 10 years in the fire service.

Rusty graduated from LaGrange Fire Rookie School 32, where his class earned Battalion 18, a distinction that represents a class coming together and operating as one company.

Rusty has continued to push himself professionally, earning Georgia Smoke Diver #1071 as a graduate of Class 57, as well as Georgia F.L.A.M.E.S. #313 through Class 30.

Outside of the fire service, Rusty is married to his wife Chesna, and together they have three beautiful children. He is also the owner and operator of his own contracting and construction business.

When asked what inspired him to become a firefighter, Rusty said he loves the brotherhood and the adrenaline of structure fires and trauma calls.

His advice to new recruits is simple: “Keep your head down and focus on you and your crew. Do your job without being told to.”

Although many would assume pizza would be his favorite firehouse meal, Rusty says steak is his go-to.

Off duty, Rusty enjoys spending time on the golf course.

When asked his favorite part of the job, Rusty said it is “the camaraderie and being part of a crew that has each other’s backs no matter what.”

Rusty is a very integral part of the department and has become a strong mentor to the rookie firefighter on his crew. His dedication to the job, his crew, and the next generation of firefighters does not go unnoticed.

Thank you for everything you do, Rusty.
