Update from our chapter’s veteran chair Mary Begovich:

My grandson Johnny and I had fun picking out six different types of pies to be delivered to the Chateau 40 & 8. They are providing the evening meal on Monday for the Indiana Veterans Home. The General de Lafayette Chapter of DAR generously donated the funds for the pies and the 40&8, V-364 will provide the rest of the meal. Johnny was disappointed when he found out there weren’t going to be soldiers there when we dropped off the pies, so I took him straight to the Indiana Veterans' Home. We met several residents and they were all so kind to a little boy in search of “real soldiers”. 🇺🇸 🥧 ❤️ What a wonderful experience. We will definitely be going back!

On Sunday, May 31st, a beautiful day was marked by the celebration of 180 years since the founding of the Bethel African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church in Lafayette, Indiana along with the unveiling of a historical marker by the General de Lafayette Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) on the church grounds. This special occasion united people through music and song, prayer, and fellowship—bringing together church members and leaders, DAR chapter members, community figures, local residents and visitors to honor the enduring history of the black community in Lafayette, Indiana, and the pivotal role the Bethel AME Church has played within it. Our chapter extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to making this marker a reality. It has been a long-awaited achievement, now proudly displayed for all to see and to deepen their understanding of our rich and enduring black heritage here in Lafayette, Indiana.

America/Indiana 250 here we come! Since it's now official, as Honorary Regent and Historian for the General de Lafayette DAR Chapter, I can announce that the Indiana Arts Commission grant that members of our team applied for has been officially approved (open link below). Ours was one of ten projects invited to a special Creative Convergence opportunity, and we made it through to the end. This means that we can launch a matching funds campaign soon to realize the full dream. As Dennis Carson so aptly stated, "Team work makes the dream work!" We do have a dream team - Dennis Carson, Audrey Johnson, Angie Klink, and Diana Vice will soon launch the inaugural Amelia Earhart festival! We have so many opportunities for the community in the coming weeks and months. We will begin with a mural of Amelia and her iconic plane, which will be created by Muralist Zach Curtis on the west wall of the Wanderlust Coffee Shop. It will be titled, "A Great Woman of Greater Lafayette." (Thanks to Sean Lutes for finding this incredible location within our downtown historic district. ) Zach created such an incredible Three Great Men Mural for us last fall, so he's been invited back and will begin work on June 16th. Stay tuned for much, much more! The mural project was sponsored, in part, by Visit Lafayette-West Lafayette. We thank them for their generosity.

Very exciting news!!! The mural is sponsored, in part, by Visit Lafayette-West Lafayette.

Unfortunately the Liberty tree we planted in the pocket park for the Rebecca Ball historical marker dedication last June did not survive the winter. It has been replaced by a beautiful new tulip tree. 🌳
