Finally let's take a look at the new course for The Courir à la Musique 8K.

Starting at Girard Park Drive and Audubon Boulevard you'll head down Audubon, you'll then turn left on Coolidge Street. After a few blocks you hang a left down Saint Mary Boulevard for a short stint. Shortly after your next left on to Rex Street you'll cross mile marker 1. You'll run the entirety of Rex Street before you take a right on to East Lewis Street. After crossing Johnston street you'll take the first right on to Stephens Street which hooks around and leads to Saint Julien Avenue on which you'll turn right. Mosey on down Julien to your next turn which will be a left on Saint Landry Street. Take Saint Landry Street and pass mile marker 2 on the way to your next right on Coliseum Road followed by another right on to Souvenir Gate. Souvenir Gate will take you through the scenic Saint Streets past mile marker 3 to the home stretch. Next you'll run a nearly half mile stretch down Saint Mary Boulevard and crossing the 4 mile mark before turning right on to Coolidge Street and right on to Audubon Boulevard before crossing the finish line!

Can you envision your triumph? We know we can! So come on out and get a lil sweaty, get a lil culture, and most importantly get a lil canailles!

Now that we know about the collaboration between Cajun Road Runners Club and Festivals Acadiens et Créoles, lets learn more about another special collaboration this year.

"The Center for Louisiana Studies at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette is partnering with Festivals Acadiens et Créoles on a nationwide initiative led by the Smithsonian’s Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage, marking the 250th anniversary of the United States.

The Smithsonian Folklife Festival has honored living cultural traditions and the communities that sustain them since its founding in 1967. This year, the Folklife Festival will collaborate with approximately 40 festivals across the country for “Of the People: The Smithsonian Festival of Festivals.”

As one of the festivals selected by the Smithsonian, Festivals Acadiens et Créoles will broaden its programming — working closely with the Center for Louisiana Studies as a principal programming partner — and present a series of expanded initiatives that deepen public engagement with the region’s music, history and material culture."

This week we're taking the time to learn more about our Downtown 8k, Courir à la Musique 8K

We've moved our 8k which was previously known as The Lafayette Downtown 8k and even before that Big Pete's 8k. This race will obviously remain the same distance but will make another albeit small move. The race will start and end at Girard Park the site of Festivals Acadiens et Créoles. Which brings me to our next point, this race is in collaboration with Festivals Acadiens et Créoles. Along with a new name, design, and amazing local vibe this race will have everything you've come to love about the previous 8k variants. At the end of this race however you'll be able to enjoy live zydeco courtesy of 'band name here.'

The Cajun Road Runners Club Triple Crown Challenge is a triad of road running events in Acadiana. The three Triple Crown Challenge races are Lafayette Downtown 8k, Cajun Cup 10K, and Vermilion River Run -10 Miler.

🎉We’re excited to officially announce our partnership with Festival Acadiens et Créoles to replace our Downtown 8k with the Courir à la Musique 8K 🎉

Inspired by Acadian culture and our flag’s colors, the logo is perfect symbol of what makes this race so special. A huge thank you to our own board member for designing it and bringing this vision to life.
