It was a truly bittersweet weekend as the 2026 Acadiana Master Naturalists completed their last workshop with Brian Sean Early, Steve Nevitt, and Braden Doucet, trudging through the Eunice Prairie restoration site and dwindling prairie remnants, trying their best to reverse the "ecological amnesia" induced by a fleeting, fragile, and at times, under emphasized ecosystem in Louisiana.

But alas, this class gives us tremendous hope, and we're counting on them, and those that came before, to continue to fight for the preservation of the Cajun Prairie and all things wild that make this state so great.

Congrats to the 2026 class for making it this far and we look forward to graduation, a little pizza party, and most importantly seeing you grow into champions of this great natural state 🫡.

One of the most anticipated workshops of the program was held this weekend at . Dr. Allen, Susan, their children, and endless volunteers have created a magical safe space for learning about and loving nature and Louisiana's astonishing biodiversity.

Flowers were smelled, bogs were meandered through, herps we fearlessly admired (with help from ), fireflies counted, insects ogled over, and plenty of eating, laughter, and gum bumping was had. IYKYK...and if you dont, you should go pay Allen Acres a visit 😉.

The 2026 AMN cohort took a chance on the weather Saturday morning and the skies parted just long enough for the group to witness and help Dr. Erik Johnson and his dedicated banding station volunteers collect invaluable data on 32 birds (8 species) and learn about the Urban Native Greens citizen science project. Thank you Fieldscope for documenting this event and for letting us visit your property (and for the free plants 😎).

Happy Earth Day!

"Progress does not happen in silence. It happens when people show up"
-Earthday.org

Our program would not be possible without the people that "show up".

Every member.

Every presenter.

Every venue

Every conservation and natural education organization.

We are a 100% volunteer based non-profit and every single ounce of support helps us achieve our goals, and for that, we are extremely grateful.

We're excited to announce that some additional, significant, support has come our way this Earth Day....

We're honored to have been selected as one of the recipients of the 2026 RES EcoGuardian Award. We will be awarded $5,000 which will allow us to turn long dreamed of local conservation and education projects into a realities.

Thanks to RES for selecting us and we're excited to give back to our community.

If you happen to be passing though Gueydan and head South until road don't go no mo', you will arrive at the gateway to +70,000 acres of freshwater marsh that is diligently managed and protected by the LDWF for wetland dependent flora and fauna as well as one of the world's rarest birds, the whooping crane (Grus americana).

This weekend, the 2026 group got to learn about how White Lake Wetlands Conservation Area is managed and about the whooping crane reintroduction program.

If you haven't visited the public nature trail (open year round with LDWF WMA access permit), we highly recommend it! You might just get a chance to get a glimpse of a whooping crane!
