On this World Food Day, let’s remember that hunger is a global issue, but it affects our neighbors right here at home, too.

Every week, Lafayette Urban Ministry’s Food Pantry helps put food on the tables of local households facing hardship. Already this year, LUM has served more than 1,300 households, helping families access the food they need.

Today, we’re celebrating the power of generosity and the difference Donor Advised Funds can make in our community.

When you make a DAF gift to Lafayette Urban Ministry, you help us be a lifeline of help and hope for our neighbors facing hunger, homelessness, financial hardship, and other challenges.

Did you know you don’t have to decide immediately where your DAF funds will go? You can contribute to your DAF today and generally receive a charitable tax deduction in the year you make the contribution, then recommend grants to nonprofits over time. This can be a helpful way to plan your charitable giving while continuing to support causes you care about throughout the year.

We are so thankful for the Greater Lafayette Clay Guild and their partnership in helping LUM be a lifeline of help and hope in our community.

During the Starry Night Festival, Kathi Shewmaker demonstrated the art of throwing bowls at Artists’ Own. Even more special, every bowl created during the demonstration was donated to LUM’s Empty Bowls event!

Join us for Empty Bowls on Wednesday, October 28, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Thomas Duncan Hall. For $35, enjoy lunch from The Buttery Shelf, choose a handcrafted bowl, and support LUM.

October 8 is Donor Advised Fund (DAF) Day, a nationwide celebration of generosity and the impact DAFs can have on community.

When you recommend a DAF gift to Lafayette Urban Ministry, you help us continue being a lifeline of help and hope for our neighbors.

One potential benefit of giving through a DAF is the ability to donate appreciated assets, such as stock. Generally, when appreciated shares are contributed directly to a DAF, donors may be eligible for a charitable deduction based on the asset’s fair market value, subject to applicable limits, while potentially avoiding capital gains tax on the appreciation.

Your generosity can make a difference today and help provide food, shelter, financial assistance, and hope to neighbors throughout Greater Lafayette.
