Lauren Lopez and Colby Hebert will reign as queen and king of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette’s 2022 Homecoming! Lopez, Hebert and the eight other members of the Homecoming Court will be presented during halftime of the Homecoming game. The Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns will face the South Alabama Jaguars at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1, at Cajun Field.

Members of the 2022 Homecoming Court are, from left, Amelia Claire Hebert, Emma Taylor, Jordan Elizabeth Richard, Destiny Broussard, Lauren Lopez, Colby Hebert, Cade Roy, Terence Toomer Jr., Grayson Stepanek and Rylan Theyard.

I want to start thanking all of you for the successful year that we had in Rotary, I could not have done it without your support. I am also very humble for amazing opportunity of being President of Rotary Lafayette South, it has been a roller-coaster of emotions as it was a new experience for me but looking back, everything that was done was fulfilling and we kept our Rotary Motto “Service above self” in every instance. Some of my goals were to bring the group together, find new members and bring different activities for our club, I can say that we completed these goals and surpassed them. I wish nothing but the best for Josh Adams our new President and I know we will continue to have more successful years with Rotary.

Rotary Tour at the new and renovated Lafayette Municipal Airport!

Lafayette Municipal Airport, located in Lafayette, Louisiana, was dedicated on November 29, 1930. Eastern Airlines began the first commercial air service from the airport in 1948. Its size has increased from 848.5 acres in 1953 to approximately 1,116 acres at present. From its humble beginning as a wooden hangar, Lafayette Regional Airport (LFT) has grown into a state-of-the art facility, providing top-notch service to area travelers and businesses. Lafayette Regional Airport is a public use, primary commercial service, and short-haul airport as designated by the Federal Aviation Administration’s National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems. The airport’s International Air Transport Association (IATA) code is “LFT” and the international Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) code is “KLFT.”

Our Spotlight Member of this week is Ms. LaSonja Dunbar, Exclusive Agent at Horace Mann Insurance and current President at Rotary Lafayette South.

LaSonja Dunbar is from Gonzales, Louisiana and moved to Lafayette to open her Insurance Agency with Horace Mann. She is very passionate about her job, as this is a fulfilling one, through her business she is helping hundreds of teachers save money and guiding them when they need a financial advice. She is always ready to help people, without hesitation. You can say she is a workaholic as most of the time she is at her office, but her free time is dedicated to her family or beneficial events, she is the mother of two boys and a girl, which are the reason of her commitment to everything she does, as she is setting a good example for them. LaSonja is without a doubt an outstanding person and always brings a positive energy to the table. She is the current President at Rotary Club of Lafayette South, and has excelled at her job, with the help of the Rotarians the club has had 31 Speakers, 7 new members, the addition of the Spotlight Member Category and 10 special events, including different and successful ones like Rumtastic and Jammin' Jambalaya, as well as classic Rotary events like Golf Scramble and Thanksgiving Basket.
