What a day it has been! Incredible artists, beautiful artwork, and a community that continues to show up and support the arts.

From meaningful conversations to new connections and beautiful pieces finding their way into new homes, today has been a celebration of everything that makes Big Easel so special.

The Young Artist Studio is giving kids the chance to paint, create, and enjoy art in a fun, welcoming way right alongside everything happening at The Big Easel.

🎨 Artist Spotlight: Sara Crochet

Lafayette-based artist, filmmaker, and photographer Sara Crochet works across mediums, but for her first Big Easel, she’s bringing her photography into focus.

Shot primarily on 35mm film, Sara’s work is rooted in observation, presence, and finding beauty in everyday moments. She embraces grain, imperfection, and the honesty of analogue photography, using the camera as a way to preserve what might otherwise pass unnoticed.

Her creative practice spans film, photography, installation, costume design, painting, collage, and creative direction, all connected by a deep curiosity about people, place, and memory.

🎨 Artist Spotlight: Garnet Bernard

After earning a degree in Elementary Education from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and spending years in the classroom, Garnet Bernard followed her creativity into a new chapter as an artist.

Working from both photographs and imagination, Garnet uses a loose, expressive process of tilting, dripping, spraying, and layering paint to create work filled with movement and emotion.

At The Big Easel, she’ll feature two distinct series: From the Garden, inspired by birds, butterflies, and colorful florals, and Full of Grace, a collection rooted in her Catholic faith.

Cyndy Hanna creates what she calls “Painting with Paper,” a tactile form of abstract realism built from layers of color, texture, and movement.

Inspired by flowers, birds, and blooming gardens, Cyndy tears, cuts, layers, and shapes paper into bold compositions that invite a closer look.

Her work is meant to be experienced up close, where the texture and detail become part of the story.
