American Legion Auxiliary Unit 141

American Legion Auxiliary Unit 141 For God and Country, we associate ourselves together for the following purposes:

To uphold and defend the constitution of the United States of America

11/11/2020
03/27/2020

Per directive from Governor Kay Ivey and at the behest of our Department President, Trish Montgomery, to follow that directive, our Department Office is now closed until April 17, reopening on April 20 (subject to any changes per that directive).

I will continue to answer any emails and check voicemails to help out where I can.

We are all volunteers, and we all put the service of others over our self. I am proud of each of you and the way you continue to strive to maintain that mission, as I know Trish is. She continues to make masks, along with members of her Unit. I know other Units are as well. Many continue to check on members and do the best they can while practicing social distancing.

You are all amazing. I am thankful to each of you for all you do. I am praying we can all get back to some sort of normalcy soon. Until then, stay safe, stay informed and keep honoring our veterans in all you do.

Many blessings,
Carol Tyson
Department Secretary

Dear All,

Please see the message below from the Department Adjutant, Greg Akers, as it contains important information pertinent to both The Legion and Auxiliary. What is most important though, is that the Department Headquarters will now be closed until April 6th. Reassessment of the closure will be done on April 5th to determine if the closure needs to remain or whether we will return to the office on April 6th. I will be checking my email, as well as checking voicemail and doing my best to assist members with whatever needs may arise. The Auxiliary Headquarters is also working from home, per the Governor of Indiana’s order. We are all here to assist as best as we can. Please don’t hesitate to reach out.

I want to echo what Greg said, remain calm. It is most important that we all stay safe, stay informed and maintain social distancing while continuing to follow our mission as best as we can. Check in with your Unit members. Even though we can’t meet together physically, we can still FaceTime, Zoom, Slack or just make a good ole fashioned phone call to say hi. A text or email can also brighten someone’s day. We can still remain close while keeping our distance. The more we follow the guidelines set out by the CDC and the WHO, the quicker we can hopefully regain some sense of normalcy.

All the best,

Carol Tyson,

Legion Family,
Unfortunately we are having to close Department HQ operations until April 6th. We will reassess the situation on April 5th to determine what schedule or to reassume all duties. Myself, Christy, and James will continue to work from home. Mail will be checked periodically as allowed by the city of Montgomery. If there is an emergency of TFA request please conduct your investigations via email or phone. Do not visit homes for investigation. As soon as you have the documentation ready call me at 334-202-2633. National staff is completely working from home as a directive from the Indiana governor. We will continue to reassess all programs weekly. There are contingencies being planned for all programs and meetings. It is our intention to have any contingency for the annual Department Convention in the call to convention packets that will be produced the 1st of May. If necessary there will be alternate plans in there. Familiarize yourselves with them in advance and we are more than willing to help. Above all remain calm, be an asset to the community, and above all take care of yourselves. Buddy Checks are essential, utilize veterans that are capable. We sent out information earlier from posts across the nation use these or develop your own. Please share any success with your local media, social media, and Department HQ. You are all heroes everyday and the country and our veterans need us now more than ever.

Dear All,

Just wanted to check in and make sure all are safe and doing well. I know many are keeping busy around the house making phone calls to other members, making masks for healthcare workers and doing so much more. Keep up the great work doing what we do for each other – service over self. You are all amazing.

Just wanted to remind everyone that reports are coming due in the month or so and now would also be a great time to work on those. Please make sure to copy both Department President, Trish Montgomery at [email protected] and myself at the Department Headquarters at [email protected] on all your reports. This ensures that Trish is able to complete her End-of-the-Year reports and I can do the Book of Reports. Thanks again for all you do. Stay safe and stay informed.

Honor our veterans in all you do.

ALA GIRLS STATE:

Dear Members of the American Legion Auxiliary, Department of Alabama,

We wanted to reach out and let you know we are following the fast-moving developments of the Coronavirus as our country faces this National Emergency and as we plan for the ‘best ALA Girls State in the land,’ as we say.

We are hopeful, and dare say confident, the Auxiliary’s 2020 GS program will go on as planned and are looking at many ‘what if’s’ in case the COVID-19 virus is still running rampant June 7th.

We encourage you to continue with the selection process by email and telephone and we discourage
in-person interviews at this time. We are extending the application deadline to May 8th.

We’ll continue to update you in the coming weeks as we monitor the situation. We pray that you and your families stay well and that this virus goes away soon.

Gratefully,
Lee Sellers and Jane Shelton Dale

Dear All,

I have spoken with The Legion, as well as with our Department President Trish Montgomery, and with all that is going on in our Nation at this time we want you to know that The American Legion Family is taking every measure we can to ensure the safety of all our family members. We are striving to protect our resources, and in doing so, The Legion has opted to close the entire Department Headquarters building on Tuesday’s and Thursday’s until April 6th. The office will only be open 3 days a week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday beginning March 23rd. On April 6th, this status will be re-evaluated to determine whether the office needs to continue to function on a limited scale, or whether regular operations will resume on a full-time basis. We at Department, hope all are staying safe and well during this time.

If you need any assistance on Tuesday or Thursday while the office is unavailable, please know that I am still available to and for you. Please email me with any questions or concerns, as I will be checking my emails while out of the office, and will make every effort to do what I can for you. Also, please let me or our Department President, Trish, know of any needs, closures or anything of importance and we will pass the information along as necessary. Be blessed. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding during these trying times, as we all strive to find a new normal right now.

Calling All Volunteers and especially Baseball Enthusiasts! I just received a request for Volunteers to serve on the planning committee for the Regional Baseball Tournament to be held in Montgomery in August. Anyone interested in serving, please contact Christy at The Legion at 334-262-6638 or email her at [email protected]. The Legion is trying to get the entire family involved. This is a great way for us to get involved and show our support for “America’s Pastime.” We would be supporting our veterans by working closely with them, as well as supporting our Children and Youth and our Community. So many opportunities all balled into one great service – I hope someone grabs ahold of it and runs. Let's knock this out of the park - I know someone can hit a Homerun!
