OBITUARY
Gene Thomas Breath, 80, of Lafayette, Louisiana, passed away on February 1, 2022 after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Gene was born on July 21, 1941 in New Orleans, Louisiana at Baptist Hospital, to the late Harry and Mildred Breath. After attending Rabouin High School, he enlisted in the United States Navy where he ranked as Gunner’s Mate (Guns) Petty Officer 3rd Class, until his honorable discharge in 1962.

Throughout the years, Gene worked as a Civil Law Notary up until his passing. He enjoyed meeting and assisting new clients, and certainly made lifelong friends along the way.

More than anything, Gene loved to entertain friends and family. It brought him such contentment to see those around him relaxing and simply enjoying one another’s company. Weekends often consisted of lively card games and elaborate meals. He also enjoyed traveling around the world. Plenty of laughs and good times were had throughout the years.

Gene is survived by his long-time partner, Florette (Flo) Sonnier, his brother, Jerry Breath (Dianne), his children, Barry Breath (Tracy), Kimberly Breath, Rick Bergeron (Sandy), Barbara Long (David), Christine Monson, and Shannon Breath (Wendy), a host of grandchildren; Ross, Courtney, Darian, Brock, Brennen, Ashley, Donovan, Kody, Mallory, Victoria, Joshua, Peyton, Alexia, Devin and Anna, and four great grandchildren; Colin, Evan, Isabella, and C**t.

He is preceded in death by his mother Mildred D. Meade, his father, Harry Steward Breath, his brother Gilbert Breath, his sister Alice Breath Bourgeois, and his grandchild, Holly Dugas.

The family would like to extend their utmost gratitude toward the team of doctors caring for Gene, most notably, Dr. David Reed. They would also like to thank Ms. Angelica with Camelot, Devin and Wendy with NSI Hospice, Celia Rosales, and the many wonderful friends for their care and thoughtfulness throughout this process.
