Shane Ozene was a seemingly healthy 15 year old young man. At 6'2" and a solid 235 lbs, we never thought that on the evening of January 31, 2011 Shane would collapse during basketball practice. Shane began to convulse during practice and went into sudden cardiac arrest. Although attempts were made, Shane was unable to be resuscitated. Shane was a big brother that his siblings looked up to, a son that made his mother proud, a trustworthy friend and an avid sports fan. He left a lasting impression on everyone he met with his calm demeanor and jokes that would brighten the darkest day. Shane was a special child with a specific purpose to change everything and everyone around him for the better. The Shane Ozene Foundation was designed to prevent other families from suffering this same tragedy. Shane could have been your child! Shane's cause of death was determined to be hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, also known as an enlarged heart. Unfortunately, the first symptom for Shane was death. The Shane Ozene Foundation urges parents/caregivers to have their children screened and tested for heart abnormalities.
