Great weather, great corn, great pork chops—all combined for a great Lafayette Lions pork chop/corn roast Saturday evening. Thank you to everyone who came of the meal, and for all the Lions and volunteers who worked together to make it another success. Special thanks to the 4-Hers from Bernadotte and West Newton who provided extra workers. The kids did a great job of 'pushing corn' for seconds, thirds and more! Great job!!! Rick Franta, Larry Mages and the Lafayette Band provided music for the evening. This was the first Lions corn/hog roast that I've been able to be at since 2015. I'm normally working at the state fair by the time the roast rolls around. It's only when Labor Day is on September 7 that the fourth Saturday of August comes up before State Fair starts.

It was a busy night for the Lafayette Lions. They held the drawing for the Matt Reinhart Cash Raffle before the monthly meeting—with Matt there to do the drawing. $500 winners were Deb Maidl, Rob Raugland, and Shana Jackson. $250 winners were Brad DeBoer and Matt Reinhart (on a ticket purchased by Judy at the Ag Center). Congrats to all. From the raffle, the Lions moved over to the Community Center for the meeting that started with dessert served by PDG Shermayne Cross and Mike and Sue Vos. The club won the dessert in a drawing from clubs that increased their donation to Journey for Service a few months ago. During the meeting, club president Scott Portner presented a Top Dog award to Dayle Besemer.

The Lafayette Lions presented a pair of special awards at Night to Unite Tuesday evening. Marilyn DeBoer received a Helen Keller Sight Award and Brad DeBoer received a Diabetes Dream Catcher award. They were presented by Joe Maidl, with other Lions on hand at the start of Night to Unite.

he Lafayette Area Lions annual awards night Tuesday evening was a full evening with the presentation of the Melvin Jones Fellowship to Dave Reed, the introduction of six scholarship recipients, the announcement of the bonus scholarship winner, special awards to Lions, and installation of officers by Nicollet Lion and PDG Joan Blank. That was all wrapped around refreshment break with delicious desserts. Decorations and serving were by the Bernadotte 4-Hers. Fun evening!!

The Lafayette Lions announced the club's newest recipient of the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellowship Friday evening during the Lions Friday evening social. That recipient is Dave Reed, as selected by previous club recipients of the award. Dave will be officially recognized at the club's Scholarship and Awards Night Tuesday, July 14. Congrats, Dave!!!

The Lafayette Lions hosted the weekly Lafayette social Friday evening. The Lions served pulled pork sandwiches, homemade desserts, and more. After a slow start, there was a nice turnout. Thank you to everyone who came—and to all of the Lafayette lions for working, especially Trish Giseke who roasted the pork. The Lafayette Band played its usual concert afterwards.
