Who are the innovative, conservation-minded farmers and ranchers leading the way in Wisconsin? Where are the must-see stops for our landmark 20th annual Conservation in Action Tour?

Share your story, or nominate a farmer you know, and be considered as a potential farm stop host, speaker, or behind-the-scenes industry tour for America’s Premier On-Farm Experience.

We’re seeking host farms, producer speakers, and regional partners who are leading by example. Ideal host sites offer field access, compelling conservation agriculture practices or systems, and engagement with peers and national stakeholders.

We are also seeking speakers to share an interactive demonstration or story from their experiences with conservation agriculture in Wisconsin, as well as partners who can provide a behind-the-scenes look at various sectors of the agriculture supply chain.

At Z3 Agriculture, with cover crop thatch under our feet and planting equipment nearby, our Conservation in Action Tour attendees experienced the Winslow family's soil health system up-close.

Host Zeb Winslow shared how his family began no-tilling and cover cropping 100% of their corn, soybeans, and cotton acres. His modified equipment showcased how producers can think outside the box to implement a system that works for their operations.

In one of Z3's cotton fields, producer Donny Lassiter shared his experiences with conservation practices on his family's farm with cotton, peanuts, corn, soybeans, wheat, and pumpkins. Soil Health Institute's Emily Ball discussed soil health measurements.

John Leach, crop advisor for FCI- An Agricultural Service Company, provided a look at 4R Nutrient Management. With his drone, Russell Hedrick, dryland corn yield record holder (459.91 bushels/acre in 2022), showed how tech can be used to validate regenerative agriculture.

We couldn't go to eastern North Carolina and not enjoy eastern North Carolina barbecue! During our 19th annual Conservation in Action Tour June 3-4, we stopped at Upper Coastal Plain Research Station for a delicious lunch from Abrams BBQ of Tarboro.

Creig Deal, Station Superintendent, welcomed us and described the research occurring at Upper Coastal Plain. Then, Teresa Lambert, N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Research Stations Division Director, talked about the strength of collaboration between the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, NC State University, and North Carolina A&T State University.

After lunch, research station employees hopped on the motorcoaches and showed us some of the station's research plots with trials on cover crops, weeds, varieties, and more.

Cotton, rice, peanuts, and sweet potatoes were featured during the morning farm stop for the 19th annual Conservation in Action Tour.

More than 230 attendees saw these crops up close at Leggett Farming Partnership, Nashville, N.C. Brent and Sue Leggett, along with their son Colin, shared how they use no-till or reduced tillage on peanuts and row crops like cotton. Mary Wilks of Carolina Precision Consulting, Inc provided agronomic insight.

Chaz Holt, U.S. Cotton Trust Protocol, and Dr. Jesse Daystar, Cotton Incorporated, showed how data can help farmers make decisions out in the field. Tommy Wheeler of Tidewater Grain Company highlighted rice and wildlife. Tour attendees also visited the sweet potato processing facility at Nash Produce.

During our 19th annual Conservation in Action Tour in North Carolina, we welcomed two remarkable individuals and a pioneering organization to our CTIC Hall of Fame!

Brown Creek Soil & Water Conservation District (Anson County, N.C.), Terry Cosby, and Robert Myers, Ph.D., were recognized for their work advancing conservation agriculture.

They have inspired generations of farmers and technical assistance providers to embrace local-led, voluntary farmland conservation and regeneration.

Congratulations, and thank you for your work in conservation agriculture!
