Can YOU identify Louisiana’s trickiest baby oaks? 🌳🔍

Whether you're a 🌱 Beginner, 🍃 Enthusiast, 🌳 Tree Nerd, or 🧙 Oak Wizard / Professional, we need your help!

At the TreesAcadiana nursery, we’ve got a whole bunch of mystery oak seedlings growing from donated seedlings… and some of these little bebés are keeping us guessing. 👀

Here’s the problem: young oaks are notoriously tricky to identify — especially members of the red oak family. (Looking at you, Water Oak… pretending to be everyone else 😅)

So we thought… why not make it fun?

We’ve uploaded photos of our unknown baby oaks, and we want YOU to cast your best guess on what species they might be.

Whether you're a forester, Master Naturalist, or just a plant nerd — we’d love your input.

🌱 Seedling Call! 🌳

Tomorrow (Sat 5/30) at 8 AM the Trees Team will be at BVD (340 Fisher Rd.) for a workday, and we’d love your help growing our community tree nursery!

👉 Have a little “weedling” (oak, magnolia, red maple, or other native tree) sprouting up in your yard or flowerbed? Instead of pulling it, pot it up and bring it to us! We’ll provide bigger pots, soil, and care until it’s ready for a forever home in a park, school, or neighborhood.

Every seedling counts — come by, say hi, and help us grow the future of Acadiana’s tree canopy! 🌳💚

A reminder that even dead trees are valuable for the ecosystem! This tree houses a pileated woodpecker, as evidenced by the hole in the trunk. Whenever possible, leave trees to decompose in their natural place.
