The African American Heritage Foundation is proud to announce Former Chief Robert P. Benoit as an honoree for the 2026 African American Heritage Month Celebration. He is recognized as our Politics Honoree for his more than four decades of distinguished public service, leadership, and unwavering commitment to public safety, civic engagement, and community advocacy throughout Acadiana.

A respected fire service executive, educator, and ordained minister, Chief Benoit’s career reflects a lifetime devoted to service, integrity, and leadership. From his decades of leadership within the Lafayette Fire Department to his continued work in emergency response coordination, education, faith-based mentorship, and civic service, his impact has strengthened institutions, protected communities, and uplifted lives.

Gala tickets and table sponsorships are now available for purchase, and parade registration forms are officially open. We invite the community to join us as we celebrate leadership, service, and legacy during the 2026 African American Heritage Month Celebration.

After a hiatus, we brought back our annual BBQ Fundraiser!! Thank you to all those who purchased a BBQ plate and/or sent donations. Your contributions help support our signature scholarship program and other youth focused community projects!

Thank you to our club members, our volunteers, and members of the Northside High School Key Club for all of your assistance and help! It was all greatly needed and appreciated! LOT of work today! Thank you to the Downtown Convention Center for allowing us to use their facility!

Menu includes BBQ chicken, rice dressing, baked beans, coleslaw, and bread. $15 per plate.

Plates may be picked up Sunday September 14, 2025 at the Downtown Convention Center at 124 S. Buchanan St., Lafayette, LA 70501 from 10:30 am to 2:00 pm.

Come pick up your plate drive-thru style! Drive up and your plate(s) will be handed to you! Walk-ups welcomed until sold out!

Proceeds help to support our community projects, our high school Key Club at Northside High School and high school scholarship program. We appreciate your support!
