Hey all my Metal Clay peeps! Still considering going to SINTER 2024 in the UK? The deadline is fast approaching (18 April), and there are still workshops available before and after the main event. Even a few sold out workshops have seats due to cancellations (Tracey Spurgin, Emma Gordon & Grainne Reynolds). L’esprit du Metal is pleased to announce that Mary Hettmansperger is coming back to Lafayette AND Baton Rouge this year!

Lafayette is hosting two ONE-DAY workshops, Baton Rouge is hosting one ONE-DAY workshop.

Torch Fire Enamels and Tab Bezel - Photo #1

Using torch firing in a variety of ways, students will make colorful and unique pieces of jewelry. Copper sheeting, wire, enamels, cold connections and embellishments will all be used to create layering and unusual effects in enameling. Patinas, texturing, and basic wire and metal applications will also be covered. Many torching techniques will be covered, such as adding woven surfaces and embedding items, patinas and more. Tab bezels will open up a world of opportunities for future connections in all jewelry work. The focus will be the endless possibilities of torch fire enameling and the benefits of using tab bezels to connect when using enamels.

Using copper and silver sheeting, and wires, students will learn to connect and design using weaving, tying, and wire techniques. Unique patinas and applications will be used to create and design in unexpected and innovative ways. Several will be made during the class time and materials to do more at home.

The focus will be the endless possibilities of torch fire enameling and the benefits of using tab bezels to connect when using enamels. Weaving techniques will also be covered to allow students to connect and embellish in unique and creative ways.
