Freetown-Port Rico Coterie The Freetown-Port Rico Coterie is a neighborhood planning group comprised of property owners, residents, and business owners.

This historic neighborhood in Lafayette, Louisiana has a number of smaller neighborhoods including Freetown, the first urban settlement of freed African-Americans in Lafayette Parish, and Porto Rico (now Port Rico), a middle class African-American neighborhood founded at the turn of the 20th century. The Freetown-Port Rico Coterie neighborhood planning area is located between Johnston Street, the

Evangeline Thruway, Pinhook Road, and University Avenue. Adjacent to both downtown and the University, it's diverse heritage and rich history makes it one of the most unique areas in the city. The Coterie is focused on organizing and implementing the short-term and long-term goals that have been outlined within the adopted Freetown - Port Rico Neighborhood Plan. Coteries were originally formed in conjunction with the implementation of the LINC planning process, which has now resulted in the passing and implementation of the Lafayette Comprehensive Plan. We’re down to the final meeting—and your input still matters.

Join us for the Drainage Community Engagement Series (3 of 3) on May 12 at 6:00 p.m. to learn what’s being done across Lafayette Parish and help shape what comes next.

This is your opportunity to:
• Explore current drainage projects
• Learn about flood mitigation efforts
• Speak directly with LCG staff
• Share input that impacts future planning
