We had a wonderfully informative presentation last week!

Highlights of what we learned included: Moncus Park has 30,000+ Louisiana irises, free community classes (yoga, tai chi, mom walks), new Farmers Market Pavilion and Meditation Garden, and great family events like Christmas in the Park and the new Sunset Sessions this June.

Join the Friends of Moncus Park (members get free parking) or volunteer — small gifts and time make a big difference. Go see why Moncus Park feels so special!

AI is transforming the way we live and work — but it’s important that we use it with wisdom and discernment.

At our recent Rotary meeting, Scott Lavergne shared an insightful discussion on where AI can be incredibly helpful — and where it should not replace human judgment. Medical advice, legal guidance, therapy, confidential information, and major decision-making still require a human touch. We also talked about the risks that come with AI, including misinformation, hallucinations, and deepfake fraud.

At the same time, the practical benefits are hard to ignore. AI can help summarize meetings and emails, identify policy gaps, improve communication, and automate routine follow-ups so people can focus on higher-value work.

The biggest takeaway: AI should be used to assist people, not replace them. Keep humans involved, protect sensitive information, and use these tools responsibly.

There are some exciting opportunities ahead as AI continues improving local businesses, organizations, and services throughout our community.

Huge thank you to Festival International de Louisiane for being our guest speakers at Rotary today! We loved hearing from Executive Director Scott Feehan and founding president Herman Mhire about the incredible impact of this event.

Did you know they’re celebrating 40 years this year? Be sure to support the festival and grab your book—just like many of our members did today!

This morning we had the opportunity to hear an outstanding presentation from Ryan Devillier on the impact of the Louisiana Small Business Development Center at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette

Ryan shared how the SBDC is helping entrepreneurs and small business owners across Acadiana start, grow, and strengthen their businesses. The numbers alone show the impact being made:

-472 clients served
-1,850 counseling hours provided
-35 new businesses started
-$2.7 million in capital infusion

Programs like this are vital to the continued growth of our local economy and the success of small businesses throughout our region.

Thank you, Ryan, for sharing how the SBDC is helping move Acadiana forward.

When Miles was diagnosed with cancer in 1995, his family promised to give him a life filled with normalcy and joy. Their journey provided firsthand experience of the daily challenges of fighting cancer.

Though Miles passed away from a brain tumor (glioblastoma) the following year, his legacy inspired the creation of a place of hope and help for those facing cancer. What began as a small tribute has grown into Miles Perret Cancer Services – a comprehensive resource center that has supported over 28,000 families in Acadiana.
