Creedence Clearwater Revival wasn’t from Louisiana, or even the South, but one of their biggest hits has a connection to the state.

Before CCR released “Suzie Q” in 1968, the song was written and recorded by Dale Hawkins, a native of Goldmine, Louisiana.

A little Louisiana music history you can hear in a rock classic!

It’s time for another jam… and just in time for the BACH to school season! 😉

Join us at Acadiana Center for the Arts for a special Suzuki Method Jam session! This is a unique opportunity for all Suzuki method players, teachers, and students to play together. Led by Andrea Villien, the jam will feature songs from the Suzuki books as well as compositions requested by you! Just RSVP to make your request: https://www.simpletix.com/e/bach-to-school-suzuki-jam-led-by-andrea-vi-tickets-285864

Any level of player is more than welcome. We will make sure that everyone has an opportunity to contribute! If you’re interested in lessons, this is also a great opportunity to meet an instructor and get a feel for what you can learn.

All you need to bring is your instrument. If you have a Suzuki method book, you are encouraged to bring it along (but it’s not required).

We’ll see you on the second floor of AcA on August 8th, Second Saturday ArtWalk!

Hosted in collaboration with Sola Violins

Louisiana music is a blend of many cultures, so its signature instruments come from a variety of traditions brought by French, Acadian, African, Caribbean, Spanish, German, Irish, Native American, and many more communities.

Every great project starts with a vision.

Leadership Lafayette, through the Leadership Institute Acadiana, got a firsthand look at the future Louisiana Music Museum as they toured the space.

Soon, these historic walls will be filled with the sounds, stories, and legacy of Louisiana music, creating a place where locals and visitors alike can experience the culture that makes our state unlike anywhere else.

We’re grateful to share the journey as this vision comes to life.

The Louisiana Music Museum is creating a place where the stories of our state's music come to life.

Visitors will explore immersive exhibits, discover the people and places behind Louisiana's iconic sounds, and experience the incredible traditions that have shaped our culture. From jazz and blues to Cajun, zydeco, gospel, rock, R&B, and more, the museum will celebrate the music that connects communities across every corner of the state.

More than a museum, it will be a destination that preserves Louisiana's musical legacy, inspires future generations, and shares our stories with the world. Follow along as we bring this vision to life.

Today, the former Lafayette Hardware Store is a fortress of antique craftsmanship — worn hardwood, pine floors, pulley systems, decorative trim, metal engravings, an original cashier booth and showcase windows.

Once renovated, however, it’ll hold space for figures like Inez Catalon, swamp rocker Johnnie Allan, and Joe and Cleoma Falcon, theoretically anyone who influenced Louisiana music, from zydeco to New Orleans funk.

Acadiana Center for the Arts is reimagining the historic building in Downtown Lafayette as the Louisiana Music Museum, a first of its kind in the state. Raising $10 million and transforming a historic building would seem to be the easy part. From the get-go, whittling down the story of Louisiana music has seemed nearly impossible, says folklorist Barry Ancelet, who has advised the curation process.

At an early meeting, Ancelet and the curation team were asked to list “essential” figures who defined Louisiana music.

“We all said we can’t do that. The story is way too complicated. The story is too complex, it’s too rich,” says Ancelet. “It was a revealing moment.”

AcA is attempting something ambitious. While there are notable museums that prioritize Louisiana’s music, such as the New Orleans Jazz Museum and the Cajun Music Hall of Fame in Eunice, few represent all the genres and individuals that make Louisiana a ‘hub’ of musical influence.
