The work beyond the water...๐ŸŒง๏ธ

Every time it rains in Lafayette, water rolls off rooftops, roads, and neighborhood lawns and has to go somewhere...and a lot of it ends up heading toward Coulee Mine, picking up fertilizers, pet waste, and runoff along the way before it ever reaches the Vermilion River. Lake Reaux, Moncus Parkโ€™s wetland pond, sits right in that path and intercepts it, slowing everything down and filtering it naturally through native plants along the bank...no chemicals, no machinery, just a healthy ecosystem doing what healthy ecosystems do.

The EPA lists wetlands among the most productive ecosystems on the planet, right alongside rainforests and coral reefs, and Lake Reaux is a small but very real piece of that story, right here in the heart of Acadiana!

It takes four people working by hand every single day to keep it that way, and this June weโ€™re raising $50,000 to fund a full year of that care...with every dollar matched up to $5,000 by the Reaux family!

Plus, every donor gets their name on a sign at Lake Reaux for the month of July. If you believe healthy watersheds, thriving native ecosystems, and clean water are worth protecting...this is your moment to support your park! ๐Ÿ’š

Jerry Reaux loved being outside...fully present and totally unhurried, making everyone around him slow down too. When he passed, his family honored him somewhere he would have loved, and that's how our little 4-acre pond in the heart of Moncus Park got his name: Lake Reaux.

Lake Reaux is working harder than it looks. Native plants blooming, a thriving food chain, migratory birds, a heron who has fully claimed the place as his own and so much more. All of this is possible because we tend it by hand, without chemicals, with a team of four people every single day!

Keeping this ecosystem healthy costs $50,000 a year.
And this June, we're on a mission to raise all of it! ๐Ÿ’ช

Everyone who contributes will have their name or the name of a loved one on a sign at Lake Reaux for the month of July, because the people who show up for this place deserve to be known!

If you love this park, the fishing, the ducks, or just having a well-loved piece of greenspace in the middle of the city...this one's for you.

๐Ÿ‘‡ Support Lake Reaux and keep this living legacy thriving.

Plus, thanks to a matching gift from Renee Reaux Fenstermaker and her children, Parker, Kaitlyn and Gracie, the first $5,000 will be doubled! ๐Ÿ’š

This morning, Moncus Park was honored to host the Acadiana Veteran Allianceโ€™s annual Memorial Day ceremony and fun run. Watching our community come together to remember and honor the men and women who gave everything is a reminder of the freedom that makes a day like this possible.

Thank you to AVA and to every veteran and military family in Acadiana. We are so grateful. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ
