Just an FYI for club members.
The SCBA picnic is Sept. 16 from 10-1 at Our bee yard at Owens Station Crossing. Bring your gear as JC will be going into the hives. There will be a smoker contest so come prepared to show off your skill at keeping your smoker going! When you win you have to share your technique.
This is a covered dish event so bring something to share with your fellow beekeepers. The club will supply drinks and snacks.

Discover the lost art of π›πžπž π₯𝐒𝐧𝐒𝐧𝐠 🐝at the NJ School of Conservation in Stokes State Forest! Once a widely practiced sport, this old time method of locating a hive of wild honey bees had been nearly forgottenβ€”until now! We’ll catch and mark foraging honey bees using a bee box, and then use techniques to estimate the direction and distance to an active hive. This sport naturally provides us with opportunities to discuss the importance of pollinators, the numerous challenges they face including climate change, loss of habitat, varroa mites, and insecticide use, and how any of these may contribute to colony collapse disorder. It also provides a great opportunity to practice our orienteering skills! There’s sure to be a lot of buzz about this new SOC program!
